You are right about records.. they are same for purposes of closed meeting
But not for purposes of records. The BOV could convene a closed session and discuss a discipline issue for a member, even invite the governor to explain exactly what happened and the details and any meeting records created would be exempt for the appointed official discipline but any record created outside of a legal closed session probably wouldn't

Under FOIA, a goct agency can choose to withhold certain employee records
But it doesnt have to. Also, if any information pertains to misconduct in the transaction of public business (accepts a bribe for example), those are not exempt.

Thats the thing though, this is all outstripping the laws ability to pace..
The students are told when to be where, what to eat, when to be in class and when not to be, not at all what you would expect if the analysis came down to is it a 1099 contractor or w2 wage employee. Its possible ly coming, look how far things have moved in just 6 years. Coach- I need FMLA for my daughters birth, you cant cut me or sit me when i come back- thats another potential legal challenge-

I love tax assessment time, mostly because I like needling...
The most outlandish whiners.... "my house isnt worth even the old assessed value!!!!" Ok- sell it to me for the old assessed value--- crickets.

Those decisions were probably made prior to JF hire....
And they probably wont be back until the football team proves it can be successful. Indiana ain't hurting and thier 2024 success fueled a large 2025 increase

Very cynical and bad faith then, IMO
Its blackletter FOIA law. Hard to believe an attorney would advise it as a legal way of conducting state business.
Football Board

FOIA obligations don't allow for a "good/no good" judgment by the agency...
They can redact whats redactedable and are obligated to disclose the rest. Anything that cant identity the student has to be released... they cant play games like they are now, especially with a contract almost certain to have standard generic clauses in each one, by saying the whole document is so unique to the individual, that they have no way to redact. University official name in it, University address, etc etc--- non-exempt from FOIA
Football Board

They can only exempt the parts of the record that identify the individual
Amounts, terms, with redactions to anoymize the the individual student are still subject to FOIA.

I have the feeling I would have a bunch of downvotes if still allowed
But im just trying to make sense of what appears to be a remarkable change in fortune for the man. Chris Coleman reported Monday that sources repeatedly said he was instrumental in making this all happen.

Even if its a matter of circumstance
Its almost certainly a remarkable change in fortune/reputation for Babcock. The conventional wisdom was that he was to be sidelined during this process. Coleman reported Monday that his sources told him that Babcock was absolutely crucial, so unless Colemans sources are playing him, its more then just the lip service we heard yesterday.
Of course, like I mentioned yesterday, Henry VIII loped Thomas Cromwells head off shortly after praising him and granting a new title......

Im now wondering if this whole committee thing was a Babcock misdirection
To allow Babcock to work his behind the scenes magic without a lot of scrutiny. As he wasn't "officially" a part of the search, no one expected a whole lot from him. Heck, we were writing his obituary. Now we've learned that he was the essential man in the middle. Im just wondering if this whole thing was some kind of master stroke to throw everyone off his scent.

I dont view it as seperate from the design element.
Design communicates form and function to all parties

Right or wrong, it appears he has escaped the hangmans noose
Perhaps the communications gave wrong impression early on, bit it appeared he was being shunted aside at the start of this deal. However, I do recall that Henry VIII granted Thomas Cromwell a new title right before deciding to have his head loped off.

It would help if the titling was clear
"Coordinator- external Footbal NIL sales" would make it clearer or at least wouldn't create the impression that such a role isnt outside or even potentially above the head whistle

Im more.confused then ever after today's presser, about the new GM position
It sounds like it will be soley a creature of the head coach. Perhaps there is a mismatch in title compared to what we know of GM roles in NFL?

The CW and early comms sure gave impression Whit was on outs
Thats definitely not the case now. Maybe the agreement was that Sands and BOV handle football and Whit handles everything else, which i think by and large he has done a credible job on

I think challenging for the conference title every 4 to 5 years
Is a reasonable ambition in the current environment. The reason its hard to beat a top 10 team is that, generally speaking, they are one of the best teams in the nation at that time. But yes, in order to break through every 4 to 5 years, its reasonable to believe you will need to at least break even thst year on any top ten games you face

Coleman reported yesterday in emergency podcast that Whit was mentioned...
As being an instrumental part of the search and hire, unofficially.

Sounds like Whit got high praise as an unofficial part of Franklin hire...
Does this help him survive for the long term? Hes had hiring success in virtually every other important sport

IIRC, Teel said it was decent, for what it was- an in-house interview

I can see it going the way you describe
For some programs it will be a lot of churn, with a lot of internal promotion of coaches identified with the set playing model the program uses
Football Board

I think the powerful coach model is at risk...
Which could speak to why we changed course, agents may fear thier industry is at risk of contraction and were vociferous. I do begrudge thst in the short term us being on the bleeding edge means we have to mitigate for that risk by conceding to the agents

In reading the article it appears the coaching agents scared them
I can see that but I believe the power of these coaches will be extremely diminished in the future as new GM models evolve. We are taking on a lot of risk up front as we test the waters but making the GM beholden to the coaching community and thier agents is a red flag IMO.
Football Board

If the head whistle gets to call shots on GM, the model wont work, IMO
Babcock seems to think the GM is intrinsically linked to the network of the coach, which doesnt makes sense if the GM has complete control-- if he fires the coach, he would get to pick his guy so it doesnt make sense to insist that the head coach be hired first to align the GM with him.

We could the contract advantages coaches enjoy start to diminish....
A strong GM will impose thier system and not beholden flavor of the day- coach either fits thier model or he doesn't. Could also see a lot more promotions from within as assistant coaches arent as beholden to the head whistle either.

My High School Sports Hall of Fame has jumped shark
A classmate who was a solid, but just that- nothing more, athlete was inducted last year. A 3 tool baseball player, with a way below average arm. A good, solid football player, but no honors above district that I recall. A wrestler but no state titles. To me, hall of fames should be a "oh yeah no doubt" honor. Does anyone else see this at thier local schools?
