A few questions about an upcoming visit to campus with my daughter
My daughter was accepted to Tech a few weeks ago, and we're coming into town this weekend. I've been back a few times in the past few years, but spent most of those visits outside and inside Lane Stadium, and inside bars and restaurants around town. My knowledge of campus and surrounding areas is pretty dated. My daughter is very active and outdoorsy, so I want to be sure to show her that side of Tech. A few questions: Is War Memorial Gym now closed? Is the McComas Gym the only student rec facility? What about the Venture Out Center? Worth a visit? Any hikes that are close by and relatively short (because we won't have a ton of extra time) that show off the natural beauty of the area? Any natural rock climbing nearby? Looks like there's a bouldering wall at Venture Out but maybe that's it for indoor climbing on campus? TIA.

War Memorial has been closed for like 4 years...
daughter graduates in May and has never been in that building. Kind of ridiculous.

You may not have time on this visit, but the Appalachian Trail travels
through Giles county and up towards Daleville. There are multiple access points at road crossings within 30-45 minutes of Blacksburg. Some of the best views are found on sections of the trail in this area.

Huckleberry trail is very nice. Pick it up at the Library in Blacksburg.

Late night bong hits around Pandapas Pond.

Pandapas pond is close and you can walk - no climbs - as little or as much
as you want. That's probably the quickest option.
