Bill for the month and we are on the budget plan. We haven't used anymore electricity than normal either.

redoing our pool (both from the construction and updated electrical) but after looking at last year's bills the energy usage was almost the same and yet the bills were over $100 different.

We are getting hammered with increases on everything......power, water, sewage........ . We are now being charged on the basis of the amount of non-permeable surface on your property, and it's based on interval percentages. So if you have 1601 square feet of non-permeable surface, you are paying 30% than your neighbor at 1600.
Taxes, utilities, public service fees, and other regulatory costs plus the covid WFH experience have left the county at 90% commercial occupancy rate, for which the commercial tax revenue loss is going to jack up residential taxes. But instead of reducing the county budget by 5%, they are just going to tax more and spend more.

You'll actually probably see them become even more common. There are usually ways to offset them though.

......will happen. It's not an issue in my neighborhood. It is elsewhere especially where the County has just let people do whatever. That's the overarching theme. They will give you an easement to build the most massive monstrosity with the largest footprint allowable and hope you put as many bathrooms as possible to jack up those assessments. They will let you build a house right on top of Carlin Springs road with an absurd stone walkway to the street if it's mo money. That's really all they care about. Gotta raise money for pickleball courts in the jail.

The only joy I get out of this County right now is seeing the ongoing battle between the Pickleballers and NIMBYs in the county. This is the most heated issue since I moved here in 1989.

remotely. That will have a massive negative impact on their tax revenue and they will have to increase taxes further on those that can't afford to move out. This is what is happening in California, New York, Connecticut, Chicago, and many other places. At some point governments will run out of other people's money.

Virginia will be like Illinois and New York in 10 years now that public
sector unionization is allowed. It will happen throughout cities up and down the 95 corridor. Union friendly local governments will give the new unions whatever they ask for. Government budgets will increase. Taxes will increase. Government tax revenue, while increasing, will not keep up with spending. Deficits will increase. Rinse and repeat.
Illinois and New York are not on sustainable paths and I’m concerned the same will happen to Virginia.

based on many factors including the stock market (retirement date) and where my youngest daughter goes to college next fall. I know there are still some great places in the state but I have some of the same concerns you listed and 35 years in NoVa has jaded me. Time for something new.

We were going to fully relocate to Erie, but due to PA taxing W PA to death to pay for E PA, we will probably cross the border to Ohio, where gas is 40 cents a gallon cheaper among other things.

On 68. As far as I am aware of we don't have any energy hog appliances. When I have time this weekend I am going to go over all the bills to see what is going on.
