It's going to be fascinating to see who he chooses for his staff.

No matter who they are, sadly we have too many who will pick them apart
like buzzards on roadkill.
That has been the toughest part of this (for me), watching this list / firing squad process on this board. Yes, it's a message board, but you've got some on here that actually think James Franklin is a bad hire, loser, can't win the big one, posting the cherry picked games for what..........? Cause "their" guy wasn't the pick??
Can we for at least 24-48 hours rally around this monumental day (that is my opinion 100%) and stop with the busting chops and tearing people down or apart before we even get to Spring Ball? IS that too much to F***ing ask?
We've gone through a MESS the last 4-5 years and there should be some respite and celebrate a new day in Hokie Sports. Good grief, some people on here are just obsessed with negativity - we've all had enough of that from what we have seen on Saturday's and read on this board.
Big day. Let's act like what it is - new chapter with a very high ceiling.

...he is likely to deliver. The fan base was fed up with Frank Beamer's failures to win "big games", but now after a decade of watching VT being terrible, it seems everyone is waxing poetic about the good old days days. And those days were good...but when we were in the middle of them, many people (myself included at times) complained about VT always losing on a big stage.
So tonight, it feels to me that VT just hired Frank Beamer lite at a much higher price tag. I'm not suggesting that Franklin can't or won't turn the program around, but if in 5 years VT is back to winning 9-10 games and stubbing its toe in "the big games", I fear some of the people celebrating Franklin's hire right now will be the same ones complaining that he can't beat elite teams and saying he's not the answer (just like PSU fans did). I don't even watch college football anymore, so I honestly don't really care about VT being successful...I just don't want to see student costs continue to skyrocket because of VT's pursuit of competing with the B1G and SEC, or to see the university bankrupt itself in the process.

If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. But I can NOT get excited about this hire. I'm not criticizing the hire to be contrarian. I've never thought Franklin was more than mediocre coach in a great situation.
I'll reserve my opinion on the coach hires when they get made. If they're good, IMO, I say so. If I don't have a clue, I'll say nothing. If they're lousy IMO, I'll say so.
I got blistered here for criticizing the Marve hire and saying that it was so bad strategically it would set the program back 2 or 3 years. I have zero regrets for doing so.
In the end, nobody who matters really cares what I or anybody else here thinks anyway...

One of the first rumors I heard was Franklin demanding a large budget for assistant coaches.

pretty good rushing offense and the OL has to deserve some credit for that. Not even sure how many guys we have playing there now during games, but I doubt there can be many substitutions. I hope Moore stays. I watched his WVU lines about every game, and they always had a good rushing attack.

He said he was forced to starting a true freshman and three redshirt frosh in a game early on.
