Also had a Harvard grad in my fleet squadron. He did not impress me either, and eventually lost his wings because of incompetence.
Attending a "prestigious" university just means you had an "in" to get in, not that you're an "elite" person.
There are plenty of really sharp people who attend those universities, but the same can be said for VT.

Street smart. I love, love, love going up against Harvard and Yale law grads. They can tell you which Supreme Court justice wrote the opinions they cite in their perfect briefs.
But get them in a trial, where street fighting strategy is paramount, and story telling, connecting with a jury, etc. is key, and they have no clue.
I am undefeated against both law schools. They have zero street fighting skills.

...was unable to write a simple article for the people back home to let them know what we were doing. Not an abstract degree like Greek mythology, but he had a freaking English degree...from Harvard. I guess he must have skipped all of his English composition classes. His flying was just bad, thus he was asked to "voluntarily" give up his wings. It was either that, or he was going to be dragged in front of a FNAEB board to have them forcibly taken.
Thankfully he stopped flying before any fatalities occurred.

Stanford can make an argument for being the best university in the world.
So if you can do it, it ain't braggin' as Dizzy Dean was purported to have said.
And all this considered, I've encountered very few uppity Stanford fans.

I work and live in the Bay Area. Work personally with a lot of Stanford and Michigan engineers and by far the Michigan grads are more aloof.
Funny Stanford grad story. We used to attend a lot of Stanford games and one hot afternoon I was by a number of young women that recently graduated from Stanford and they were getting into it with some USC fans in the stands, The banter was quite funny. One of them turned to me and asked to borrow one of my Reef flips. I was like, “ok?” I’m older and did not realize it was a bottle opener on the bottom 😊 We had a great laugh and I got a cold beer!
BTW the small contingent of Hokies we have are amazing as well,
