With the players returning... next year...
2024 could be a really big for VT. Looking at the 2024 schedule, coupled with how VT did to end 2023... I think expectations should be.... -> 5 wins or less: Bad things happened with injuries and/or Pry isn't the guy -> 6 wins: Less than ideal, but if the young guys look good, hope for 2025 -> 7 wins: Solid year 3, but leaving some to be desired -> 8-9 wins: Where this team should be, with winnable games... (4) All OOC (@Vandy, Marshall, @ODU, Rutgers) (3) Conference Easier ones - BC, @Duke, @Stanford (2) Conference Toss-Ups - UVA, @Syracuse, and Georgia Tech (2) Conference Toughest - Clemson, @Miami -> 10 + wins: Exceeding expectations It's too early to tell, but 2025 and 2026 also don't look too insanely different for VT. If Pry keeps building things up, I think VT could see a minimum of 21-24 wins over the next 3 seasons. It isn't the glory days, but a competitive and respected VT gets us back into the conversations. Given the 12-team playoff format coming, I don't think being hopeful for a playoff birth by 2026 is unreasonable. Unlikely, sure.

I agree with everything except
UVA being a toss up. They're at least an "easy" until they learn how to put on their big boy pants and consistently show us otherwise. They haven't won in Lane since '98. After the beat down they received at home, we'll probably see a more focused effort in '24, but they're still them, and we're still us - and they'll be facing us in the Terror Dome.

Objectively, what's the Vegas O/U? 7.5? 8 = good season, 7 = meh, 6 is
a disappointment, no bowl is WTF - fire the coaching culprits.

So much of it depends on staying healthy, for instance Drones out, a lot of
questions will arise.

We should run the table on the OOC games next season
No excuse not to go 4-0 against this slate: @ Vanderbilt: they are bad, just plain bad. We should smoke them in the season opener in Nashville. Marshall: this is a home game and we owe them payback for this season's loss. Big VT win in Blacksburg. @ ODU: we all know our past history there. This is the game we finally get it right and beat them on the road. Rutgers: gritty, tough team. It's in Lane Stadium. Enough said. We'll smack them.

seeing that we are indeed D-1aa #2? Yah; guess that could play-off in '26.

Anything less than 9 would be a disappointment IMO, schedule is cake

This is probably accurate.

9 as the expectation is probably too many considering we have done that
exactly once in the last decade, but I'd say 8-4 should be the baseline. Considering how senior heavy we will be that is what we are going to need to see that we are still on track. High probability that '25 is worse than '24.

Trade Stanford and UVA
I know Stanford isn't that great but they will be more of a threat than UVA just by playing the game on the west coast alone.

Uva, odu type of games should be checkboxes, not tossups

It's wise not to get too far ahead of yourself.
Especially this day and age. But things are looking up and next year could be really fun. I find it ridiculous to handicap a seasons worth of games. Even when we were really good. But yeah, if Uva is a toss up that would be an extreme surprise. ** Edited by crazylane at 12/14/2023, 9:34:08 PM

Way to soon to project where the team is in 2026
They’ll be better than they are now of course. But a lot will change in the next 2.5 years. We don’t even know what the ACC will look like or who will be part of it.

Yes. We take them and toss them up as far and high as we like! 😉

Even though VT has owned the series ...
I never want to underestimate a rivalry game. And, unlike the CFB committee, you can't ignore the games being played. If, for example, VT is 10-1 going into the game and a shot at the CFB Playoffs and ACC Champ game and UVA is 3-8... you cant just sleep on them. Pitt vs WVU about 20 years ago showed that. That (subpar) Pitt team kicked WVU right out of the BCS Champ Game.
