The point is any given Saturday. Who cares if it was a week before Clemson. That implies FSU was looking ahead; I assure you they were not. If the same Pitt VT team shows up, they have a chance.

The light came on vs Pitt. By that, I mean the team finally found an identity. The coaches figured out who their QB is and finally committed to an offensive scheme that fits not only the QB but also what the program wants to be. Running the ball, having a dynamic threat at QB, and passing off play-action. Not to mention feeding Tuten the rock. I also enjoyed the rotation of Thomas getting in every few series. Giving Tuten a breather, it felt very Coach Hite-like. Also, the LBs showed consistency with Tisdale + Lawson, who played their responsibilities well. This was against a team that loves to run the ball in Pitt. Marve/Pry didn't rotate guys, which is an encouraging sign. It means they're not a liability and can get a feel for the game the longer they're in. Similar to Bud Foster's defenses. Last thing, the team's ability to run the ball is crucial for this game. To beat FSU, you need to control the clock. Keep their offense off the field. Not just because they're efficient at scoring points but also because VT's defense needs the time to adjust to whatever their offense is trying to do. What's often overlooked is the fewer snaps the defense gets. This means there's more time for coaches AND players on the sidelines to gameplan the next series. The sooner the defense adjusts, the more 3rd downs we'll see. I hope this is a fight-it-out, slow, physical chess match vs FSU. I don't expect a blowout like I keep hearing from our very own VT people. VT has the talent and athletes to run with FSU. I can't remember an opponent having a performance so bad that they don't just bench the QB, they put him over on another position group entirely. I don't think VT can possibly win this game unless somehow FSU goes like -4 or worse in turnover margin.

Again, we're talking a "born again" and baptized Tybow, our "new" QB and .... well basically the Pitt game. If that VT team, or better, shows up, look out.

maybe a couple of things over the course of a game but the idea that either coaches or players can change up much series to series just seems like a fantasy to me. I fully agree on the D needing to play as few snaps as they can is a big help for the under talented.

That explains an adjustment. It's simply reacting to what the offense is doing. Period. It's not a fantasy, it's actually common/normal. Completely changing the defensive scheme or game plan would be a fantasy IMO. ** Edited by VTizzle at 10/6/2023, 3:10:15 PM

on what you term to be adjustments? Is it single players and/or alignments? Assignment responsibilities to certain formations? Other? There are plenty of things that can be done series to series, possibly even within the same series, depending upon what you term an adjustment. The limitations on those adjustments depend mostly on the players and coaches. Have you ever actually played or coached the game?

But this was so clearly so the D could take in changes in gameplan in real time. That is what I don't think much can be done with. Certainly some of the coaches are "in game guys" but is that trying to teach new stuff in game? Or is it just trying to reinforce what has been already taught all season and in specific prep the week before? My point, way more of the latter and way less of the former. That is all.

and changes to gameplans "in game" happen all the time. All the questions I asked, the majority of which you chose to ignore, were asked to see what experience might be informing your opinion. I know Tizz's experience, which is solid, and is good support for the information and opinions he shares with the board.
