We got bs calls and so did they
But an unlucky flagrant foul, 3 second call, and the missed push in the back on Schutt….. oh well. I thought wake played extremely physical tonight and our guards just couldn’t stay in front of their man on the perimeter. That’s been an issue almost every year that I can remember. Is this poor defensive mechanics, schemed by design, or just kids getting out played?

The F1 on Lawal was atrocious, as was the non-call on Schutt’s 3
The man climbed on his back! Not sure what part of that isn’t a foul. It wasn’t even the end of game buzzer, just the halftime buzzer. So there should not have been any hesitation whatsoever for the refs to whistle it as a foul. What on earth?! And the Lawal….wow. I’ve seen MUCH worse not get called at all, let alone upgraded to a flagrant. At that point in the game the refs need to save the flagrant stuff for truly outrageous conduct.

It's never a foul at the buzzer (Schutt today, Hammond against Miami).
Unless of course it is foul at the buzzer (Wenzel against UVa), haha. Sometimes they call it, sometimes they don't.

The 3 second 3 second call was the backbreaker. And it nullified a bucket.
How often do you see that?

I'm guessing that was something the Wake coaches talked to him about either
before the game or during a timeout. It looked like it was a good call by the rules, but normally it is not enforced if the big guy clears to the edge of the lane rather than just camping underneath. In that sense, it was a crappy call. It wasn't nearly as bad as the mystery call on the Juke Harris drive.

You can overcome a lot, but you cannot overcome the ACC refs.
And that goes double in the ACC tournament. This is getting old.

Yes, getting very old. It happens over and over, against VT women as well.
Both of the women's games against UNC were horribly slanted towards UNC. Makes me wonder how much NIL money the refs are getting from UNC.

Either we win or we get cheated, right?

ACC Bias
Why would the ACC and the officials conspire against us. This mindset that the ACC office is against us is stupid. There are now more non original ACC teams (12) than original (6) ACC teams in the conference. I am sure the ACC brass would have preferred us win because we were on the bubble and wf was no where near the bubble. The brass would want us in for the extra money it would generate the league. And there is no curse either, we dont win because we cant close out important games when it matters

and major level "college" BBall is now a minor-league pro sport
except I think in the NBA you can get fined for criticizing refs - in "college" I don't think you do - maybe get suspended for a game if it's bad enough but you still get to keep the $$$$

They did overcome it and had multiple chances to win it.

We probably do win this game if not for those atrocious calls
The no call on Schutt’s three was absolutely ridiculous, only to be topped by the utterly insane Flagrant 1 against Lawal. Even the ACC Network talking heads said that was a terrible call.

We haven't been able to stop dribble penetration all year

I am not sure anyone on the staff knows how to scheme/coach defense.

Not true Frazier is an excellent defensive coach. Bottomline is VT
Has not had athletic and big enough guards to compete defensively at high level in ACC. Part of that is roster budget where we are spending at about 12th.

Frazier has been a great coach. Not sure what happened this year.
