I posted earlier that I think it’s time to say bye to Young
And to be clear, that doesn’t mean I think he’s a bad coach. I actually think he’s a great coach, especially offensively, and he consistently gets the most out of what he has.
But let’s be real: the game has changed a lot. With NIL being what it is now, you need a coach who’s aligned with that reality. We’re in Blacksburg, VA—great place, I love it—but it’s not exactly a natural draw for most players unless they believe playing here is going to elevate them. That’s just the landscape now.
People like to think Young is just some aw-shucks, good-ole-boy type, but he isn’t. He can be pretty confident—sometimes even full of himself—and he understands better than anyone how hard it is to win here and how much adaptation the modern game requires.

The Gridiron has a streety side-- the roundball is no less urban; in all candor... streetier if you will. No doubt. A blind man could see that with his, cane.
That truthing truly struck... The way Eye understand it... is... we 'align' somewhere in/about the top-12 to 15% {sic: of N.i.l., overall... teamwide}. This has done come up mo' than a little bit in the last year+ to boot. (i.e., menz hoops has only moved in a more attractive, better funded O&M direction).
That being said, this is a zero-$um counter.
A Owens Dining Hall fixed, pie... if you will...
Eye also understand that this is relatively 24o6o top-heavy.

if we hire a new coach? If Young retires it will be because of NIL and the portal. It would suck to have to recruit a new team every year.

If VT truly commits, then yeah its time to move on. Otherwise a coach change won't amount to a warm bucket of spit.

Regardless it's all about the bottom line !
Have to find an away to energize this program . Weather is new coach nil .

Guys want to play a different style these days, more like playground ball. It stinks but it is what it is. He doesn’t have enough NIL or an urban campus to make up for it.
