I know Dorn is day to day but it seems he’s been that way for the past 2
Weeks, wondering if anyone has any insider info, maybe he had back surgery that would keep him out for longer

7 footer - back problems, could be fine tomorrow, could be never.

I’m just assuming he’s done for the year, he would mess up chemistry
If he did come back, at most he’s a foul trouble replacement guy. Would rather see Jones get more run at the 4 with his athleticism and rebounding, Dorn is about as athletic as Gurdak which is to say, not enough

How would Dorn mess up the chemistry?
Dorn and Gurdak are different players no doubt. But at the very least, I don't think having another 5 fouls to give at the 5 position messes up chemistry in any way.

Woah, Gurdak is much more athletic than Dorn.
Gurdak has been a pleasant surprise so far and has been a major factor in the paint with two of our big men out.

No question

No, not more athletic - better ball skills and moves smoother.....
Dorn's slightly more athletic, also his experience gave him an advantage on team defense principals prior to his injury. Gurdak is better with the ball in his hands, Dorn was better without the ball, but Gurdak sure is a fast learner.

I like Gurdak, but he's a big liability from a team D perspective.

I wouldn’t say BIG liability
He understands help concepts. It’s why I said Dorn is more athletic…he has more physical tools to defend than Gurdak because he covers more ground more quickly BUT Gurdak understands positioning very well to offset his lack of quickness and explosion

Athletic? No. I’d say Dorn is more athletic as far as movement goes
Gurdak has better post moves, hands and finishing touch. Dorn probably would beat Gurdak in shuttles, vertical jump etc; but currently Gurdak is a more polished basketball player. Dorn has a much longer wingspan and could be more of a defensive disruptor. I could see offense for defense subs Dorn for D and Gurdak for O at games end if other team has a big who’s an offensive threat and/or when one of Tobi or Hansberry is out due to fouls

we could really use Dorn Vs SMU
they have a monster on their roster. Having a massive dude would be helpful vs him.

They’re just about the same size and both can barely dunk
Gurdak knows how to use his body better, Dorn is a bit more refined on both ends from a skill perspective. Gurdak has great hands though, which is key for a big guy

Christian Gurdak reminds me of Christian Laettner. Even looks like him.
But to bad Gurdak doesn't have Laettner's shooting touch.

Gurdak has nice touch at FT line
Haven’t seen him shoot a FG from outside 8 feet

He reminds me of PJ Hall. Hall certainly added more to his game over 4yrs

I don't see that one either. Gurdak is a 5. Period. Hall was not a 5.

Gurdak's game doesn't remind me of Christian Laettner in any way

In what way are their games/skill sets similar?
No offense, but it's like you just pulled a name out the tall white guy hat. ** Edited by marcbvtgm at 1/13/2026, 10:58:13 AM

Athleticism in the paint.

He has some O skill under the basket, but "athletic in the paint"?
Just because he's more athletic than, say, Patrick Wesley, that doesn't mean he's particularly athletic. And certainly not similar to Laettner. I guess if I had to stretch, I'd say Gurdak and Laettner have/had a good feel where the rim is and have/had decent footwork inside the restricted area. But that's about it. ** Edited by marcbvtgm at 1/13/2026, 12:15:03 PM

yikes. not good for him or us. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 we neeed a sturdy big to alternate
with Gurdak. if he gets into foul trouble against dook, uncheaters, teams with good bigs and depth - either we suffer from undersized 5 or they go at him and foul him out, then we have no height with muscle to sub in
