Always been a MY fan for VT
But this team did not get better as the season went on. A few players got better, Collins and Kidd for example. Hope that changes for next year or well on outside of NCAA again. Top 64 teams go to NCAA.

CMY is a great guy, great representative of the school and a good coach
... but clearly his assistants are not helping him. If he is to rejuvenate the perception of the program and turn things around recruiting-wise he needs to bring in one or two new assistants. I don't know what Byers has done for the program. The defense is still not that good, and the team is not physical enough, and I don't see where the recruiting now is up the level needed. ** Edited by lazarus1 at 3/13/2024, 10:14:56 PM

It's interesing, they have been physical at times and then...
....you get yesterday, which mirrored some of the early season beat downs where it looked hard to even get the ball across half-court. Several times this year, it looked like we were turning a corner as a team, but never really did (e.g., Beran - more fouls than points in his last game) ** Edited by GoldCoast at 3/14/2024, 12:23:35 PM

Love D Jackson but…
Our S&C looks WAY WAY behind other teams. It looks like our team is the one that needs directions to the weight room

Huh what?!
Tell me what Byers has brought to the program... was supposed to be a D Coord type hire but this team is little, if any better than last years semi-disaster defensively.
Chris Coleman Chris Coleman
That's a common misconception.
Byers coached at VCU, which is thought of as a defensive program. However, he was generally an offensive coach for the Rams. Tech doesn't have a DC, nor have they ever had one. It's Mike Young's system. However, I do believe that an extra set of defensive eyes and perhaps a different type of defensive motivations (Frazier) is missing. ** Edited by Chris Coleman at 3/14/2024, 9:54:31 AM

68 teams and I would argue it isn't the best 68 in the country.

The top 48 are in there and that will include the national champion
The other 20 teams are mid-major conference winners and last four in types. None of those teams will win it all - in my opinion that is - so it doesn't matter to me that the top 68 aren't in there. The reason we have "Madness" in March Madness is because of the first and second round upsets and the occasional double digit seed in the Sweet Sixteen. I like it that way.

Is there anyone who does argue it’s the best 68?

OP said top 64 teams go to the tourney.

Fair enough.
Other than OP, few think the tourney includes the top 68.

I mean, yeah. Can't make a good argument for Tech earning a shot at the NC
which is what the NCAA tournament is, but anyone who doesn't realize that the auto bids are basketball's equivalent of affirmative action are kidding themselves. They have a certain amount of picks for the "the best" 37 or however many teams, then 31 "best who check this box" picks. It's why the NCAA tournament isn't as great as everyone pretends it is and seeing CFB inch that way isn't a good thing. That said, again, we have zero argument for having earned a shot at the national championship.

You are correct. It is not. The reality for any Division I basketball
program is the ability to garner one of 37 spots available in the Tournament. One of those 37 spots being whatever conference automatic bid the league offers that the school plays in. And then one of 36 at large bids. 31 spots are literally unavailable for all schools each year.

Which means to make the tournament not off the autobid process
you have to be close to the top 10% of all D1 teams. That is a pretty tall order. That is the equivalent to making the new 12 team CFP every year if you believe some folks on here.
