Clemson game>>ACC Network
Hope the network will show the crowd in the Cassell. I anticipate many open seats, the results of the product on the floor. If Whit has "withheld" NIL for MBB, then he should be retired. OK to give me "heat" but as fan/supporter for 60+ years, I'm fully disgusted with the state of the basketball team >> would bet that many other `ole Hokies are too.
Go Hokies, shock the bookie and me to beat da Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I doubt Whit "withheld" anything. More like just a shortage of the total money VT needs to take a step up from where we are. I firmly believe money is not the only answer and does not solve everything but you cannot overcome the shortage of money with anything else.

And Whit has no chain of command or authority over Triumph or Hokie way. But bottomline the BIG Triumph contributors directed their money to football, that's where the BRAND for VT is.....
certainly not VT basketball...

Whit has no control over those NIL contributions that were restricted (only for one sport). He does have input over the use of all the other NIL contributions. And, as per the Investment Guide, he would have control over those unrestricted NIL funds made via the Keep Jumping fund. Now, we may not know the exact numbers over which he has input (YET), but he does have input over some. @VTScoop has reported that the MBB staff was not non-vocal re: NIL allocations. You're post is inaccurate and misleading.

level basketball roster. Some people make the point that VT can't actually pay people. While this might technically be true, this response is either based on some degree of ignorance, or it is some apologists doing a sneaky, deceitful word dance. I will concede that it might be true the VT can't pay basketball players directly. However, schools all over the place have figured out some way to coordinate with the NIL parties and compile a much better team than VT currently has.
A LOT of schools figured out how operate and coordinate more effectively than VT is. Why can't Whit get off his ass and do the same? Has he even publicly made and announcement how much money it would take? Or if he can't, have the collective get to work on this? NO. That is what is so infuriating. We all know this is being bungled, but what is worse is having to sit in some fog without any potential fix in sight. Is he too scared to communicate what is needed? That isn't a way to get things fixed. He is absolutely TERRIBLE.

This thing is exploding so quickly it is hard for any AD on a real budget to keep up.

players first hit, starting with the defection of Rodney Rice, followed by the mass exodus of last yearâs players.
I agree with your comments that some schools figured it out, some didnât, and we didnât. I also think football was the first to realize what was happening and that left insufficient funds when the basketball players hands came out demanding more than beer money. The team we have now is what resources WB, CMY, and staff managed to scratch together on the fly to backfill all the defections. To CMYâs credit, he almost pulled off a miracle record time restocking with the resources he could gather but came up short a point guard. That was a killer for this season because this is not a good ball handling team.
To me, itâs clearly a WB problem. He was slow recognizing the new NIL market value of the athletes. The question now is how aggressive we will be in the next portal, especially considering we missed on some top targets in the â25 class. We need a blockbuster portal to get the program back on track. Without it, Iâd say itâs time for a change at AD. Thereâs no point in playing ACC basketball if itâs just to become a consistent bottom feeder.

Is it Whit's fault that VT either does not have the leader big donors necessary? I am sure that some of the places you think were ahead of the curve, the donors led the AD and not the opposite.

IMHO a goodly number of the Whit criticisms are not things he has any control over.

are for things he absolutely has control over. He controls his department and the failure to hire and/or develop the fundraising operation, the failure to hire AND retain a CFO to manage financial operations, the decision to starve football to the point of driving off a capable coach, etc. are things he controls.

I fault Whit for not creating and implementing a vision that is consistent with his resources. The situation appears to be, largely, out of control.
I would be impressed with him telling VT fans the way itâs going to be, rather than hiding in a corner and hoping no one notices.
Again, it isnât about outcomes. Itâs about leadership.

going on. Perhaps he is aware, but if so, you'd think he'd try to communicate and emphasize this and some people would kick in money to close the gap and get us competitive. Is he not going "retail" and only hitting up big donors? That wouldn't make much sense. If he isn't conveying urgency or ringing the alarm bells, then it suggests he is not that displeased with the product - which is mind-boggling. He just scratches his worthless butt while the ship sinks.
It sort of seems to me that he knows he got caught really short last year - quite likely because he had to dump money into football, and now if he expresses how much of a hole VT is in MBB-wise, it makes him look bad, but everyone knows its a mess and his silence makes him look like a bigger weasel. He's just a gutless head-in-the-sand type guy.
Just lay the cards on the table and call it out and tell us the money target to get this fixed.
Does anyone have a better explanation for his sorry conduct? Whit is just dirt. I can't believe we keep him around.
Please communicate what the gap is and what is being done to close it. If not, he is utterly worthless.

The issue is on these posts those who share any criticism get lambasted at times . The issue is we care. I donât know the internal workings but do Hearp
A couple in the know that Sands ours a lot of faith to date in Babcock. Sands is more interested in growing the student population and research than any others. There is a ton of ole boy network still in administration that needs to be retired and some obey given back to MBB. The other reality is that as good a coach as CMY has been he has not proven over the last five years to keep good players even before NIL lifted off. This edition of MBB is hard to watch. A lot of factors. We have one truly athletic player who is still learning the game. Johnson is a keeper and beast. I am not sure any of the players other than the two mentioned would be going to a better P4 school. Our two guards who started the season are not P4 guards. Data doesnât lie. Look at the stats

that had not proved itself (FB), and away from a coaches and programs that had met expectations (MBB and WBB). How did that work out? What does that say about the decision-making ability of leadership?

The Football program has many more student athletes than both basketball programs (maybe 5:1) so wouldn't they require more NIL money?

Letâs say your baseline spend is $80 for FB and $20 for BB. If you decide to âdouble downâ on FB, you could now rebalance to $90 - $10. That is a 12% increase in football spend but a 50% reduction in BB spend.
It doesnât take a rocket scientist to realize this had a devastating impact on BB.
My statement on performance is not subjective when it reflects the vast majority opinion. Everyone agrees that FB has not met objectives while CMY and Kenny Brooks met all reasonable expectations.

saying they wonât invest more in red can Coke because it has under-performed and that it would be a travesty to take money from SmartWater even though SmartWater had performed well.
Life isnât fair. But you invest money into the big things that can and do make money.
Sorry for WBB but what are we talking about? WBB is completely irrelevant to the business of P4 athletics. Sorry, not sorry.

to be an ACC contender went 6-7 in a down year for the league. You can blame it on injuries or whatever but football hasn't met objectives.
Maybe they don't get screwed in the Miami game and have more confidence and win 8 or 9, but football looks shaky.
