This is a team of role players and backups…
All could be 4th or 5th option on most teams or first or second off the bench. Exception is Hammond who is being forced into action before his time. We don’t have a Pedulla or Kidd or even a Cattoor. Each of them is trying to step up to be the guy but not ready. Defensively, each guarding one or two guys better than they should (no shut down defender like Cattoor). In the world of a few years ago you could see this as a team with a future but keeping the key parts in place will be a Challenge. Schutt could be a number 1 or 2 option a year from now as will Johnson, and Hammond could be there in 2 years…. Who knows about Jones. Not sure Young will ever be more than a good role player and Rech not likely more than a decent backup (same with Wessler). No clue where Lawal will be next year. He has a long way to go to be more than a solid backup but seeing as he has only played the game for 4-5 years you could see him maybe making a big step. Burnham would have been great last year supplementing Beran and Poteat would be great this year in last year’s role. I think the goal would be to prioritize keeping Johnson, Schutt, and Hammond as well as Jones if coach Young sees his future to be bright. Then get a couple of guys from the portal to bridge the gaps.

The failure mode is PG
We had a veteran PG picked out to lead this ragtag group. Miller would have reduced our TO rate enough to win a few more games than we have already.

I wonder how many wins for us is Miller betting on

I am thinking 10 to 12 total wins.

Lol. I would imagine his DK and BetMGM accounts are suspended at this point

he also would have put enough pressure on the defense
to create some open looks for others. It doesnt take 2 or 3 defenders in the paint to stop Rech- lol.

The guy was dominant the last portion of the year. Too bad.

We're just not a very good shooting team. Only three players are shooting
Over 40% from the field. Our three centers Poteat, Lawal and Wessler are shooting over 50% but everybody else is shooting under 40%. We're shooting 41% as a team. Won't win many games with that.

That's it. We are getting decent shots. Just can't make them.

Agree. For me, he is the one pleasant surprise.

The experts said he couldn’t move well enough for this level.
That was BS. He moves just fine. He is just as agile and coordinated as Poteat, if not more so. His rebound rate per minute played is good. He is tough and doesn’t get pushed around. He should stick around and work on his offensive game. Every team needs a solid back-up post player and he is likely affordable and focused on his education. We would be fools to let him get away. ** Edited by VT ChemE 1986 at 12/5/2024, 10:58:47 AM

For once, the experts were mostly right. But he can be serviceable.

Somewhat servicable. Poteat still having to play 30 minutes is too long
for Poteat.

A serviceable big has value. The experts discounted him altogether.
He can serve the same role as Poteat the previous 2 years.
