SEC is smoking the ACC in hoops challenge

Now maybe at last we can the stop the inane posts
claiming none of this really matters because a couple of ACC schools have made recent runs in March. The SEC has been markedly better then the ACC for several years. So has the B12. And the BE has been better. Anyone with eyeballs can quickly see the level of athleticism of the Auburns Bamas, Uks , Tennessee and on and on dwarfs anyone in the ACC not named Duke or UNC. There is no comparison. I am probably the oldest most diehard ACC hoops guy here, and I accept reality. If a field was announced right now the ACC might get 3 teams or 4 out of 18 in. "Wait to March!"....give me a break.

ACC basketball is dead and buried, what made it great is all gone
No schools except Duke are willing to self fund at the level required to compete on both coaching and players. All the great coaches that made the conference the best have retired, all the players that make the conference competitive have transferred to the SEC. All the conference expansion has been dilutive to results. At the end of the day the ACC is more competitive with CUSA than it is with the P2. Time to move on from college sports for most fans

ACC is a power league only in non revs like soccer & Baseball
And competitive in softball plus Olympic sports but that’s about it. Football is actually better than basketball right now

Acc teams facing revenue challenges
Sec has so much revenue fhe conference reinvested all into basketball. Acc school generally rely on acc revenue fo balance the books. And acc pressured to up its game in football

With 20mil per year/member university extra in media distributions vs an
ACC university, it doesn't take much to move the needle(in non-fb sports) should a sec program decide...I know distribution isn't nil today, but it allows flex with donors/other sources. VT needed nearly every nil nickel to have a .500 football team (should be a .750 team but..). For many sec schools, directing 1-2mil to BB doesn't measurably/negatively impact football We're probably in the bottom of the 4th inning with the nil evolution. The implementation of rev sharing (House settlement) will introduce another round of implications.

Clearly the ACC stacked all of their "go to" teams on the 2nd day...lol

Well, last year the challenge was 7-7…there was no discernible difference
In the conferences and ACC teams improved through the year and outperformed SEC in NCAA. Not happening this year. The trickle down of the football $$ has done a lot more trickling and it’s showing

Good lord they won the challenge in the first 9 games lol
9-1 after night one only because Clemson upset Kentucky. I saw Miami and Cal were both looking good at halftime in the earlier games, but I guess they both fell apart. Figured it might be a 7-3 or maybe even 8-2 night for the SEC but 9-1 is...woof.

Clem over UK is the only decent win the conf has all season
The only positive at this point is that there are a lot of quality losses.... I mean 2 of Cheat's 3 losses are to the top 2 ranked teams right now and one of Duke's 2 is to #1. So there is that :) Nope, the ACC decided they would continue to show everyone how basketball is supposed to be played, recruit and develop players, etc while the SEC and B12 said they are going to bring in the best ballers they can, throw them on the court and let them run. (Not directed at the OP, but at those that are about to attack me because the SEC and ESPN are colluding to destroy the ACC or whatever the ongoing excuse is) I know, I know, ESPN, SEC, evil...whatever. The reason ESPN markets the SEC over the ACC is it is more entertaining and draws better ratings, continue to play the victim card all you want, but the SEC and B12 are dominating and entertaining, so people want to watch, the ACC (in basketball and football) is and has been for a decade, a joke and no one outside the fanbases has any interest in watching. No, making tourney runs a couple years doesn't change the fact that no one is interested in watching all season.

Might as well do a Big 10/SEC
Challenge next year. The powers that be are making the nonp2 irrelevant. At least those CAL Bears came up Big for Tobacco Road! ** Edited by crazylane at 12/3/2024, 9:37:37 PM
