Why are we not taking advantage of ACC title? We’re losing out on everyone

b. That title was a great thrill and accomplishment for us, but having an incredible run over a few days isn't going to do much overall for moving the recruiting needle.

...on a potential transfer/recruit. They aren't looking at a team primed to make a deep tourney run next year or one that has much of a history of doing so. Other than PT at the 4/5 , what would be their incentives from purely a bball perspective?

I didn’t see it tremendously moving the needle for recruiting this year. I think that will come with continued success. And, I do think that’s happening - VT basketball is trending upward.

Yeah we got hot in Brooklyn then fell flat once again in the first round of the NCAAT, a tournament we wouldn't have been playing in had we not won 4 in 4 days in BK.
Both Reid and Ward would've been the 2nd highest ranked recruit to ever play for VT behind Dorian Finney-Smith. When you're competing for talent like that the competition is pretty fierce.
We'd be better served targeting guys like Camden and Mutts who are under the radar but fit the system.

feel like we are behind in the transfer game. Yeah, they've had a few good years recently but they are nowhere close to being a blue blood, Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere, and that new coach of theirs, the Janet Reno clone, can he really coach?

best transfer from a year or two ago is being lured by Michigan with a NIL offer of around $300,000.

and his commitment made Ward less of a priority. An ACC title pales next to Gonzaga’s final fours and we are not going to win that battle even with a kid from Richmond. This is not about $$$ so much imo but who knows. The Miami situation with agents and billionaire investors tells me no one really knows what is happening behind the actual on campus recruiting. Most high end recruits will probably have someone in their ear and looking out for their best interests ie a handler/agent/nli marketing consortium. Another concern is the case of Ryan Young from Northwestern. He is a kid who could play a lot at VT who will probably play 7-10 minutes a game at Duke. This is not happening a lot but I believe we will see some grad students look at getting a “ring†at a blue blood while sacrificing minutes and getting a very good grad degree. Tech has a great educational opportunity but we need to go deeper into the tournament to open eyes.

Understand why Reid would choose Gonzaga over VT.
They are an exceptional Basketball Team.
When VT or any school is vying for that level of talent…. You don’t win them all
But of course you know all this…
