Collin Gaj, it's always refreshing to hear from our student athletes Sat he
was one of 3 athletes featured at a presentation Dr. Sands has done during UT PROSIM SOCIETY Weekend. I was very impressed with the fact that as a freshman he did well on the mat & classroom. His composure in front of the alumni attending the session was great to see Small facts that at 17, he left home in PA, came to train at SERTC while finishing HS online before starting VT this past fall was pretty significant.

My buddy in NJ and his son in law are very involved with wrestling at this
school in NJ. The son in law wrestled and is an assistant coach, the father in law announces several sports there Killian just won the state title as a junior and is extremely enthusiastic about coming to Tech. The boy is my friends grandson and the assistant's son Oh and the cap is VT too
Hopefully the link works so you can see a bit about him

while true about VT & others having overseas campus, go check & you'll
find that the same exists for most of SEC. and BIG schools. PROBABLY FOR BIG 12

I won't argue sewer but VT provides its own water, huge water chiller
facilities in what was part of the cage

Aren't all scholarships really on a yearly basis? only players that new
staff think are worth keeping will even be at VT next year

AI says you're correct Big Ten Conference's media rights expire in 2030,
in 2030, Would be interesting to see if that might spur yet another realignment round of activities

have you considered who owns USA Network? it's NBC Comcast conglomerate the
same group The broadcasts Notre Dame. whether it's successful or not is yet to be seen. but my point is it's just another big media company that's going to see if they can make money via advertising broadcasting games as opposed to running a lot of rerun TV shows

might be small $ but surprisingly Ive yet to see sponsor logos on unis like

Just a thought, what if VT football wasn't caught up in the "arms race"
mentality that has now become the norm at the FBS level. If we were playing a slate of more regional schools including UVA annually but without ridiculously priced tickets, license fees and parking. don't you think that alumni and students? would still enjoy all the pomp and circumstance that we have for home games . If we did away with everything tomorrow, the only thing that would be left with is the debt service on any facilities that haven't been paid off like the West side expansion, but even that would be manageable when you think of the payouts we're making to fire coaches and such

Add FSU & VT game to that resume I wonder if you can't get better ratings
when a game is televised on CW, it's a free over the air network and national. ACCN is subscription and right now blocked from YouTube TV

gotcha, I guess the term here is only used in conjunction with the
relationship that a company may have to a former employee getting a pension. I guess in generat US refers to same as a "retiree" or someone eligible for Social Security
Conference Realignment Board

not sure why you think it's amusing term, I am one from a US company & get
mail regularly that refers to the broad group of retired/resigned employees that get monthly $ as "pensioneers" I guess it does sound a bit pretentious and fewer and fewer living Americans get any type of pension income.

I can't fathom what's in it for the pension fund and all their employe es
that expects some type of monthly payment. how much of a return which is interest for the life of the terms on 2.4 billion

start watching nationally what's already going on at lesser institutions
population of eligible US students for college is on its way down. there definitely will be room for flagship universities to grow but not as much as it has been in the past

I'm sure these rankings have as much to do with success in all sports and
keeping the athletic revenue and expenditures in the black black. many programs continuously are in the red year after year

I would argue that Rutgers and Maryland were shrewd more of the BIG alums
are likely to have moved to the New York or Washington DC market giving the alumni a chance to see it on local TV or attend the game in person. let's assume that GT would be considered. I doubt the Atlanta market has his higher percentage of alums as cities like DC or New York

What I also find interesting is that it's occurring as the number of HS
graduates is flat and heading down nationwide as the birth rate is flat and even declining Those application numbers definitely have more to do with perceived value and hard work of the university as a whole in getting its graduates into jobs and careers

you have to wonder how relevant BB will be going forward. it definitely
requires fewer players, maybe less NIL $ due to fewer players, but I have to wonder long term if fans are going to be interested long term for what I perceive are becoming minor leaque professional sports.

Good point, I know that on the west side, the bleachers at the top were
removed and some type of stadium seat exists there as "indoor/outdoor" club patrons Effectively retrofitted from existing levels. In the SEZ , that was all new so the concrete row can be wider. In Cassel the seats were replaced where the rows are narrow and steep

Absolutely think the 4 corner video boards could easily be worked out. Love
the Bridge idea. To be but to be practical though, that Scoreboard will likely be obsolete by the time an expansion is warranted, so I would remove it & use the SEZ design. However make all current Outdoor club seats now be bleachers, eliminate luxury boxes and used the covered area contain "club seats" that might even have heaters in the ceiling like Buffalo Bills have on their second tier covered seating. As to the "road" behind the stadium between the practice field, it probably can still exist and if not the concourse floor can be used to drive vehicles through as needed when the stadium isn't being used

Anything is possible, even expanding the stadium or reducing seating such
as what UNC did by installing stadium seats where bleacher types once existed If any expansion were to occur regardless of what conference VT plays in, it will have more to do with demand

long term maybe Universities in the US will just drop all athletics and
focus on their missions to provide education and research for the betterment of their states and society instead of paying 20-year-olds to play games

if you bought them through VT they're paper and away game tickets have
always been that way even VT does same for opponents away game seats it would be much more difficult to have another University send 4000 electronic tickets to VT and then administrate distribution to individuals and even for home games you can get paper

Thanks for posting and I actually believe the commenters about how key
issues like working a full-time and fan abuse. Likely other contributing factors: just like the overall student population is on the decline the numbers of adults in generations after the Baby Boomer era is less. Therefore, the pool of those adults that might participate is also less. I am sure there is little financial compensation, maybe Federal allowance for mileage to & from? I know you do it for the love of the sport, but more and more adults need a second viable income that referees are not going to get

assuming VT was rewarded with that type of windfall I would use the funds
to pay down that service on the facilities that we have outstanding so we can afford to borrow more if we chose to improve Castle or some other facility and the other part of the money would go towards scholarship endowments effectively doing so to both would allow money in the budgeted amounts to be spent elsewhere because part of it is to pay down that service and two fund scholarships

how can you say there are a few inches shorter than the bleacher when
there are entire rows in entire sections that are season ticket holders each getting one and the number of seats in a row hasn't changed? Marshall had these last year and I sat in one and it was very comfortable but admittedly there was no one next to me I did it at the end of the game to check them out

Does anyone here have any idea of what % of VTs debt service-bonds I think?
currently owes on Athletic facilities. I am referring to the outstanding balance on improvements/build to Lane, Beamer Barn, Cassell, Baseball, Rector field house?

The "donation" to the tax-exempt NIL is being questioned. Regardless the $
received from any NIL to the athlete is income and taxable. I would think the next question for the IRS will be whether the reported value provided to the athlete in the form of Scholarship money should also be taxed.

I don't know if it was mentioned, 60 yrs. ago GT left the SEC on their own.
while no one could predict the future, I'll make this one point. GT has in no way suffered from that decision. If anything, it's academic reputation has likely improved. Most "fans" forget the real mission of these universities has nothing to do with professional nature of modern-daywhile no one could predict the future, I'll make this one point. GT has in no way suffered from that decision. If anything, it's academic reputation has likely improved. Most "fans" forget the real mission of these universities has nothing to do with professional nature of modern-day athletics. Another prestigious academic university that left the SEC, Tulane was a charter member. And the University of Chicago gave up the Big 10. I on a long-term trajectory where US Universitiies just give up athletics altogether. Dartmouth, another well thought of academic institution in the Ivy league is fighting employee/unionism. Granted it is private but if I am making practical business decisions on where to spend $, I might just scrap the athletic programs altogether. Do I really need to be spending more $ on a basketball program that is losing $ already?

it used to be that you had to maintain minimum gpa in HS to participate in
any extra-curricular activities, now it seems anyone can do what they want in many school districts.
