Its working for the big schools in the BIg 10 states, Its working in the south and how many senators are in these states??? No one is going to vote that gives the perception that their 'state u's will be damaged from competing for championship

matter what congress does. It's my bet, that if there is any action, it will be about education, Title 9, and other student athletes getting paid, whether or not they play for the revenue generating sports. They will tout it as standing up for education, women, and Olympic sports.
The rich schools will remain rich, but with the athletes being paid, different levels of competition will have different levels of the % of revenue distributed based on the level of competition. It's my guess that unless some schools come up with the money, FBS may be reduced to the current power conference + 1 or 2. Many, if not all of those in Conference USA, the Fun belt, and the MAC will not be able to hang, and we will end up with 2 "G" conferences that will also compete, if they can come up with the minimum amount of money it will take.
Set a minimum and a maximum on what the FBS has to distribute to the players. ND, tOSU, Texas and all of the other rich schools can keep their money, but if it's done right, they will not be able to out spend a K-State or a VT in regards to paying players.

be congressional involvement, it will surround Title 9, Olympic sports, the student athlete, and the same rules (average revenue % payments?) for the athletes.

won't prove damage. Everyone is technically playing by the same rules now. But some schools/conferences have more money to do it with.

non existent. To me, it doesn't matter if Texas makes more money than TT. It's the ability to use that money to buy players that is the problem. Take an average of the total FBS media money, or maybe the power conferences, and put a cap on what players can get paid. use that as a minimum as well. Every school has the same amount of money to pay their players, and be done with it.
NIL can easily be taken care of. If you want to play college ball, put it in their contract that you can not receive NIL.

think it's awful that it took so long to become "legal". I have a huge problem with how it has been implemented. Schools and conferences should be paying out of revenue. What that limit should be, I don't know. Because with the amount of donations coming in for NIL, that $20M or whatever cap is too low.

NIL is a different monster all together, but I as again, what would that person be worth if he wasn't a player? College athletics is not set up as a professional league. If a school want to go pro, let them. The rest of us will play college ball, and i assure you, there is a media market for that. Take the blue bloods, form a pro league. They wouldn't last a year without the rest of us.

they need to stop cashing the checks. NIL has been brewing for about 20 years. The NCAA/schools completely screwed the pooch by continuously kicking the can down the road and lawyering up. They were always going to lose.
If the blue bloods break off, that's what people will watch. That is proven through TV ratings. That's a fact. The less than elites need the elites as far as TV goes.

like the rest of college athletics doesn't have content that people will watch as well. They will just not make as much media money. If there is a 32 league of the blue bloods formed - good riddance.

They will get all the TV slots on a given Saturday, and it would look more like the NFL. The rest of college football doesn't want that.

my position that if they break away, then the rest can most certainly have a competitive structure, and just don't invite the break away league to the basketball tournament, baseball world series, or any other championship. The collegiate pro's will do just fine with their own league, I'm pretty sure of it. Not sure they can call their winners college national champions though.

at pretty much all big state U's, conference shifts or not.
Michigan State has doubled in size in the last 30 years...Indiana has grown almost 40%...conference stability...in a conference that's always been nationally prominent.
Louisville is quoted as a beneficiary in the article. U of L has grown like 15% in the last decade since joining the ACC. Auburn has grown about 20% by staying put.
The leap from cause to effect is just that...a leap based on anecdotes...and it wasn't hard to find the opposing ones above.

start watching nationally what's already going on at lesser institutions
population of eligible US students for college is on its way down. there definitely will be room for flagship universities to grow but not as much as it has been in the past

what you need to to support your argument, but that does not diminish the argument on the other side.
If athletics didn't help the institution, they wouldn't exist.

When the effect happens both with and without the proposed cause, it diminishes the case for cause and effect and promotes one of coincidence.
Certainly nothing will ever be close to definitive about either side, but there's some confirmation bias going on in that article and with the sports lovers around here.

Build an entertainment center next to Lane (chicken Hill) with entertainment venues, hotels, apartments restarants. Its also interesting VT is exploring selling Hotel Roanoke (looking for over 62 million)....
Maybe VT is repositioning its real estate portfolio, and Need a Chief Athletic Officer to oversee development
