Posting History (36)

Either Young resigned / fired or players on planes to next destinations

Young's post game press conference showed an old guy without any answers. Time to move on. And I've been a big supporter of his coaching.

Neat fact about UVA / VT softball pitchers

Layne for UVA and Carrico - VT both came from same high school in Virginia. They were 2 years apart at Appomattox. Carrico ended up sharing time as a senior 2 years ago with a freshman (last name is Mann). People are saying that Mann may be the best of the bunch, but her parents are UVA fans.

Co Young mentioned, post game, they had emphasized ball / player movement

This was clearly implemented last night. The ball had not been moving and it bogged down the offense. Too much standing around waiting for next action allows the defense to overplay passing lanes. Great to see the way they were moving and cutting putting pressure on the defense.

It appeared his shots came with hesitation

He seems that 'pass first' is how he plays. Teams will play him accordingly by cutting off passing lanes. With that, if we clear out for his drives and take away help, he'll be able to finish at rim consistently. Think playing like Magic Johnson, not a great shooter but he kills you every other way.

I miss the +/- feature on Live Stats

We seemed to have this stat about half of the games last year. This shows how the individual player is doing point wise with the 5 on the court as a group when he is on the court. A prolific scorer may be having a big game individually and team wise, but if they are terrible on the defensive end, are they helping the team win? As a coach, that would be the most important stat I would look at. All of the other stats are fluff in my view. Team stats of how the team is doing as a group determines wins and losses.

The closest I get is a fantasy FB league that is free.

The only thing exchanged is trash talk. We've been doing it for 14 years.

Sports betting. Informal poll.

I'm not judging anyone, but I don't bet on anything because father had gambling addiction which tore my family apart. Not trying to say anyone that bets will become addicted either. How many of you: 1. Bet with "legal" sports betting site for college games? 2. Individual bets just with friends? 3. Bet on VT? 4. Bet just on the big games?

#33 Bell is good for at least one per game.

The saying of playing to the end of the whistle defines him. If he played 5-10 years ago, 1/2 of these hits would not be flagged. Many times, he hits the QB too hard for today's game.

Whoever can bring the best players with him. Pavia model.

It's the wild west now. Transfers rules college basketball and now football. If there is a NCAA rule against it, just mention lawsuit, your free to do what you want.

I believe NIL & portal has broken traditional recruiting

Revolving door rosters is not the best way to develop programs in any sport.

More than likely, a project we develop for 2 years and then he's gone.

Another big to practice with. If he develops more than that, great. If not, he moves on.

4 year players at one school will be the rarity.

People thought the one and dones (Ky and Duke) would be the downfall. of college basketball. But this "Show me the money" era is worse. If I wanted to be a basketball coach again, I'd find another small high school in a rural area. It's small scale, for the love of the game, players. Did it for 15 years and worst thing about it was doing the laundry and bus rides.

I've got surgery wing at Lynchburg hospital should be named after me,

- 6 spinal lower back surgeries - Wrist fusion - Appendectomy - Two kidney stone surgeries - Foot 4th and 5th metatarsal amputation, 2 separate surgeries - Knee surgery

Hard to get mad at the good nurses. But have had several "Nurse Ratcheds"

For a 2 week stay, foot infection with partial amputation because of sepsis. Changing antibiotic IV every 8 hours for 2 months at home was not fun for me or my family either. The nurses who wake you up and ask you if you need something to help me sleep are ones in the "special" category.

Appears to not play gentle around the rim

No finger rolls, he attacks the rim. Does he have foot speed for Defense?

He'll enjoy those big checks until ... taxes grab half.

Then again, they may be his only checks in his future. NFL can be cruel, produce on the field or better have a useful degree.

Isaiah Abraham - UConn 3-4 forward portaling

Went to same school as Hammond (Paul XI). Wasted year at UConn. VT was in top 4 while he was a top 65 HS recruit. Maybe he enjoyed playing with Hammond.

The lady investigating us checked everything we did

We started slow in providing info and she said we'd hate to have any federal spending for our whole county suspended. It's called, "Yes maam, what do you need and when do you need it?" First it was a visit every two weeks, then once a week, and at the end it was every day for about 3 weeks. The image of Beulah Balbricka is closest comparison. I can't watch Porky's since then.

Chris / anybody on NIL $$$

With Title 9, do schools have to match or divvy up $$$ between Men's / Women's sports? I had 2 years of you know what, after a Title 9 complaint on the high school I was AD, during late 90's. It aged me 10 years. Unequal facilities for Baseball / Softball was the initial cause. Then perceived unequal funding was piled on with it.

Hunting, fishing, golfing

There has to be some more outdoor types out there that love to hunt, fish, or golf and also excel at basketball. I say use what we got. But you'd have to stipulate can't miss practices or games. How about a NIL lakefront home on Claytor Lake with a state of the art fishing boat? Bird loved to fish. Maybe Bud could take them wakeboarding during the summers. Or an ATV vehicle to reach those hard to get to hunting spots out in Giles County. Karl Malone loved to hunt. Or Blacksburg CC or Pete Dye River Course home right on the course. Jordan and many NBA stars play golf with a passion. Millions are thrown around as NIL recruitment in college sports. Let's think outside the box. And use that Bass Fishing National Championship Trophy to good use.

Will a top tier team take a chance on him or will he end up with

A directional Florida school? As you say, no college film, but is his HS film enough? I know he was injured toward the end of his HS years so will his injury history keep the big boys away?

Beard is a good coach, but Young does everything you mention

Lack of $$$ is out of his hands. Unfortunately, today's game is dominated by cash available and the ability to jump from school to school if the player sees rainbows instead of hard work.

Question, Jaydon Young, why isn't he listed on 247 portal site?

Is that because he is on "No Contact" listing? Oversight on site? Lack of paperwork sent in?
