Hokie men showed up and willed their way to that win.
They were not affected by the coach they lost.
They did not care that no one believed in them.
They did not care that the team they were playing was 5-2.
They did not care that their Hokie fans had given up on the season.
They came out on that field and battled and believed and left the field with a hard-fought Hokie win.
And they were led by Phil Montgomery.
Thanks Phil and thanks to the men that battled on this team to find Victory
What a game and GO HOKIES!!!

I attended the game…
First, I will say we went from incredible defense and offense the first two series (my wife reminded me this is how we started against Vandy. I felt dread.) to uninspired play in the rest of the first quarter and all of the second.
Then something happened. These guys came out of halftime with their ‘hair on fire’ and even with the refs providing Cal a touchdown with the bogus roughing call, our young men didn’t quit.
What was said at halftime? (And thank you Coach Pry for hiring Coach Montgomery.) I would have loved to have been in the locker room at the half. This is not the most talented team we have had, but it ranks up there as one of the gutsiest.
To our fans in attendance:
1) you are showing up, so why are you not staying. You left in droves at the half. I am not talking about the students as I unfortunately have grown accustomed to their leaving. How full was Lane after the half 50% to 60%? Is there such a thing as home field advantage anymore?
2) students - I wish those who left and those watching on TV could have seen the ‘new’ shirtless section. What was the size? 1,000 young male students (hopefully), bare-chested and raising the volume and intensity in Lane. If I wasn’t approaching 70 years old, I would have joined you. Did you hear them singing ‘Enter Sandman’ a cappella near the end of the contest? GREAT STUFF!
3) fans at home may have heard the vocal fans in attendance giving it to the refs if the d@#n Jumbotron was unplugged. Sure it serves a purpose, but with two bands, a spirit squad and the shirtless section, who needs you. You lack the understanding of sportsmanship (blasting that d@#n thing right up to the opponent’s snap and drowning out the public address announcer).
Best time I have had in Lane in a long time.

The saying of playing to the end of the whistle defines him. If he played 5-10 years ago, 1/2 of these hits would not be flagged. Many times, he hits the QB too hard for today's game.

Nice win
Happy for the team
THAT SAID
Penalties almost cost the game again
The game winning FG should've been closer

in to the mix...the ref complaining rightfully is still present, but there is no woe.
