I spent a chunk of my 20s thinking if i could have a cute blonde carolina

girl my life would be a-ok. Then it happened and it did not make my life a-ok.

So I Married An Axe Murderer

Mike Myers' best film by far. Grate early 90s soundtrack.

He had a 0.856 OPS last year and 0.956 OPS the year before

He's the most established hitter on the team. A seven game slump is a pretty short slump in terms of baseball. He'll be fine in the long term.

My grandnephew is 14 months old, but I can't wait for his 1st college game

I'm trying to get him to throw with his left hand (as I did his Dad and my son) but it's not taking. He's going to have to throw harder as a righthander.

The Lounge 5 mo ago

Hmmm...

I got charged for a non-existant paramount plus account last week. Then the next day there were about $200 is charges from other random websites.

The Lounge 5 mo ago

I've had 2 hacked in the last 4 months

I caught it myself, pretty early, both times. If you catch it early it is not so bad. One was all local charges without the physical card. Driving around Christiansburg, going to WalMart, Kroger, Sheetz, and the vape shop. I wish the card company told me what happened because it felt skimmed versus some Romanian bot. Last legit charge...Red Lobster.

That would be grate coaching

I once had a coach (in grad school intermurals) tell me it was time to get hot again. I looked back at him and said "if I could turn it on and off, I would just leave it on all the time."

Inside Info...they may play in Holly Springs

They've reserved a field in NC if they can't get the field cleared in time. Making the call today.

Younger of the two

The older one is a senior at the Miller School, and is committed to University of Louisiana. Sam is a junior at Blacksburg. Fastball hit 91 as a sophomore. Not sure if he'll pitch or play SS in college.

Walking through downtown on a sunny day is the best bit of tourism you

may ever experience. A colleague took me to NyHavn one day and pointed at a group of young women and ask me if they were Danish or Swedish. I said I have no idea. He said Swedish, because they can't hold their alcohol. If you go, grab a Carlsberg a the 7-11 and sit on the dock at NyHavn and people watch.

The Carlsberg Brewery is a good tour

When I went (20+ years ago) you got a full 2 pints of your choice at the end. The docent told us, go this way for the exhibit, or if we just wanted free beer go this other way to bypass the exhibit. I wanted to go to the exhibit, There where a bunch of soccer fans there who were prepping for the match. I did not see them in the exhibit hall.

I worked for a Danish company for 24 years

so if you end up in Copenhagen, I can give some advice. I love going to Copenhagen, but part of the reason is I know it so well and feel so comfortable there. There are some cool things to see, but it is really expensive. I always went on business, so I didn't have to worry about the cost so much. I went about 15 times? I lost count.

How long did De Ridder have 4 fouls?

He really helped keep them in it, and I kept hoping Hammond's drive would results in the 5th. His not picking up his fifth was key to it going into 3 OT.

Yeah China has different infrastructure and lifestyle

If we want to sell cars there, might need to make some EVs. But not F150s.

The Lounge 7 mo ago

"Winds of Memories"

what David Letterman called them once because he couldn't remember the actual names.

The Lounge 7 mo ago

I do not endorse that video at all

Taking people's reasonable fears about what food companies do and then adding pseudo science to sensationalize those fears. I don't drink bud light, coors, etc. because they suck. But they are completely safe. The most unsafe thing about them is that they contain alcohol.

That is a really entertaining movie

I love movies where you expect nothing going in, and then they are actually really good. Not normally a huge Rachel McAdams fan, but there was something about her in that movie. Galaxy Quest is another movie like that. I rented it at Blockbuster at the time just as something to pass the time during a lame evening. And it is one of my all time favorites.

Just hearing from people who know the family and/or have coached him

I have no idea. They probably have no idea. He probably has no idea. And I don't know him or his family. But, John Michael had already left for Miller School at this point, and Sam looks to be more talented at the same point. Sam has not left for 2 reasons I have heard: he wants to play football as well, and just his personality. Just trying to start some conversation!

Sam Szefc ranked #7 in the state for 2027

Can't find the link I saw last night, I think it was on twitter. Higher than our other 2027 commits. Of course, he need his arm that he broke during football to heel. But there are some whispers that he will want to stay in town. Also whispers he will go someplace small and try to play both sports.

I missed it

I did everything right and missed it. Had 4 letters in the right place by guess 4 but had 4 potential words that worked. My day is ruined.

This is where we stayed in Maui last year

Not great, but got the job done. Felt like the hotels we stayed at on family vacation in the 70s. But it was a condo with full kitchen and separate bedrooms. I like the area in terms of getting where we need to go. The other time I went to Maui I stayed at the Grand Weilea, as my buddy's employer at the time (Salesforce) paid for the trip (I was his plus 1). I very much suggest the Grand Weilea if someone else is paying for it or you have infinite money. https://www.guestreservations.com/aston-maui-banyan/ We took a trip to Haleakala the morning after we got in (they pick you up at 2:30 am, so we just went when our body's timing was already fouled up). Breakfast was great and it got us into the NP even though I forgot to sign up for entry passes. https://www.tourmaui.com/tours/haleakala-sunrise-tour/ Then we did the beach one day and the Road to Hana the third day. Our favorite Maui place to eat was the food trucks at: https://www.southmauigardens.com/foodtrucks The teenagers could get whatever they wanted and it thereby minimized complaining, which is the Kryptonite of every middle age dad. Of course we found it the day we were switching islands. Otherwise, we would have eaten here every day. Then on to Kauai and Hawaii.

Have you read "Mailman" Yet?

It's a really interesting look into the Postal Service and also a love letter to Blacksburg. Got to hear the author speak at Blacksburg Books a few weeks ago. Really fun read! And I usually read zero books during the semester.

If he can solve 2 equations with 2 unknowns

without me having to show him how to do it, i'll take him.

The Lounge 8 mo ago

I see it from both ends

Teaching engineering students at Tech and trying to help my kids who are in high school. Math skills are way down and a big part of it is how we teach it in high school.

There is not much of a market for houses >$2M in B'burg

All those houses stay on the market a long time. And they are all bargains for what you pay. But a 1500 sq ft house that is in decent shape is $500k. My dream house sold for $1.4M a few years ago. Now my house would probably sell for $850K. I should have bought it.

The Lounge 8 mo ago

No, he was right

I love my baseball cards, but my collection is from when I was a kid (starting around 82) to when I was in college and early grad school (say 1994). And all of those cards are monetarily worthless. I had a fun time collecting cards, though, so I also put some value in that. They are likely worth the BTU value you could generate by burning them.

And get the Raspberry Beret at Leadbelly

Hamburger with bacon, raspberry jelly, and peanut butter

Head to the museum of natural history in Lincoln

Right next to memorial stadium. It's not really big, but has a bunch of different wooly mammoths and dinosaur skeletons - all found in Nebraska. I have no idea why they're the huskers and not the tuskers. Mammoths are much more intimidating than corn farmers. We went to SAC museum a bunch of times. It was 20 minutes from out house in Omaha. Good town. But too cold.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Lutterman at first or third

The 1B was blond and short and stocky. The 3B was a lot bigger than I remember Lutterman.
