Can we finally put to bed that Carrico is not a starter?

I never doubted her
She may have bumps in the road but that's reality with a youngster.

I think the hope was she would not have to start . . .
that we'd have Mazz + another starter and Bree could be Kent Tekulve.

I preferred her to be Al Hrabosky. Oh well

Brees demeanor is much more Teke-like :)

I don't think it was some big debate

As good as she has been she can do it all. Her choice. And coach's.

I don’t think anyone ever suggested she can’t be a starter. Pete has used
her perfectly in my opinion. No one else on this staff can close, or pitch long relief in a key game, like Bree can. The way she has been used is why we have won so many games. Sure she can start but I like her affecting many game instead of a few. That being said, I would consider starting her tomorrow or quick hooking Mazz and bringing her in early, if necessary.

Don’t know about 2 days in a row but it does raise the
question of who should be the game 1 and 3 starter. Bree made a good case that it could be her. With her control in check, Mazz fits the profile of a closer who can get strikeouts.

Mazz has the potential to walk too many to be a closer

I don’t ever see Mazz as a closer. Has the velocity but throws too many
pitches. A little too erratic as well. Carrico is around the plate and can pitch up and down and has a great change up. Keep hitters off balance and her defenders on their toes.

She can and should start

She’s the one who says she likes to come in relief.
I mean, I don’t know how the mojo works there, Pete letting her stay in her comfort zone type stuff we’re telling her it’s time to start

She needs to stay liking coming in in the first inning.

Yep, those were her own words. I heard it.
But she is 110% a team player and will do whatever it takes to help the team. And man, did she help the team tonight.

Yeah, there was a discussion on this board earlier …
Whether she would start or not, so I guess the question was in the air as we speak and… now we know May see you tomorrow at Laiproaig ‘s tailgate? ** Edited by `lag at 4/3/2026, 9:26:20 PM

I didn’t say she wasn’t a terrific pitcher
I’m just repeating what she said. I would be/am thrilled if we now have a two strong pitching rotation a luxury I don’t remember ever having at VT I could argue that’s a step in a growth of confidence, if you’re in relief, you can come in hero mode, but now she has to own it from the get-go and now has.

Seen it numerous times people saying she is not a starter.
I get she likes the relief role but she is the next choice behind Mazz to start. The younger pitchers have a high ceiling but just not there yet.

She hasn't been a starter. They tried a couple games, then PSU, it didn't
go well, and she hasn't started since. That's not a debate topic, she just hasn't been a starter. Maybe it was mental, but she hasn't been someone we could rely on as a starter, or at least expect to start. Now, maybe that has changed. Or maybe Pete still likes to save her to closeout games. I don't know, we'll see going forward. She looked good through 4 1/2 innnings, so hopefully if it was just in her head she didn't want to start, she's gotten over it.

Well, OK I don’t understand that
Just what she said, and I would guess they’re just repeating her. I absolutely loved her comment about going home over the summer and practicing every single day. I’m thrilled.

I completely understand that she likes that role and I have no issue. But
we have 2 legit starters on this team. Glad to see her hardwork paying off for her.

Your statement about the young pitchers have a 'high ceiling' is based on?
Are you projecting based on HS/TB stats or recruiting ratings because they mean very little.
H

Based on what they have shown they have talent is all I am saying.
Recruiting ratings dont mean everything but look up and down these blue bloods rosters and tell me how many of their players had poor recruiting ratings.
MidloHokie MidloHokie
4mo
Sure they do but none have yet demonstrate they are going to be a . . .
#1 or #2. So, basically, it's a hope at this point. Of course, Bree wasn't even on anyone's (on this board) radar last year. You, me and even the coaches never know until you see consistent successful innings. There are far more bullpen all-stars than actual ones.

Oh yea not saying they will be number 1 or 2 pitchers but they do have
talent. Plenty of under the radar players out there that were not highly recruited for sure.
