for this I’ll assume FSU, Clemson, UNC, and UVA go to the SEC and Miami and Notre Dame go to the B1G. I think the best 20-team conference cobbled together from those still in the ACC and XII would be something like this: VT NCSU Duke GT UCF WVU Pitt Louisville Iowa State Kansas Kansas State Colorado BYU OK State Texas Tech Utah Arizona Arizona State Stanford Cal Next 4 in: TCU Baylor Cincinnati Syracuse Last 4 in: Houston SMU Wake Forest Boston College I think the focus should be on large public schools and brand name schools to maximize fan interest. There’s probably other schools I’d consider before some of the ones listed towards the end, like UConn instead of BC, Memphis instead of SMU, and South Florida instead of Wake.

VT NC State GT Pitt West Virginia Louisville UCF USF UCONN or Temple Nine team conference. Every body plays each other head to head in football every year. No conference championship game in football. Whoever has the best regular season conference record is the champ in football. Every body plays a home and home in basketball every year. Everybody makes the basketball conference championship. In football we can still schedule OOC games with Virginia every year and rotate in ODU, William and Mary, VMI, Wofford, and Furman. Nobody would want to televise this conference but I sure would enjoy it. These are (9) public schools that I see as peers that like to put resources into football and basketball. The ACC is going through a very similar path as the Pac. The Pac touted the brands, the tv network, and the academics as superior to the Big 12. And they were right. But they experienced the same fate, actually worse, than the Big 12 when the Big 12 lost its brands. Their arrogance and losing the brands did them in. If the ACC loses its brands, the ACC still would have two things the Pac didn't have: a tv deal and a tv network tied to ESPN. However, the tv deal likely will be renegotiated by ESPN for the brands leaving. The ACC can backfill or try to lure some Big 12 teams, but the ACC would not be in position of strength. There is a solution that would benefit the Big 12 and most of the remaining ACC. VTech, Pitt, NC State, Duke, and Louisville leave with the brands but are able to keep the ACC name and commissioner. This new ACC would invite the Big 12 in its entirety for a 24 team conference. The 23rd and 24th teams are up for debate. ESPN and Fox may make this worthwhile to this new ACC also. Strength in numbers of good teams is the only way to combat the Big 10 and SEC.

They have already had those discussions or had the terms read to them by big media and know about how much money a brands leaving ACC is worth and what the ACC will look like. Adding lower league teams to keep some number is probably not a requirement for the contract.

To me that's difficult to determine because there's so much parity in the Big 12. No one really stands out either way. This is not a dig on the conference, because you could make a pretty good case for any of the 16 to make the cut for different reasons. The ACC is a bit different as the more obvious "left-outs" would be Wake, BC and Syracuse. Pitt, Duke, Stanford and Cal would be next out IMO but one could make a solid case for any of those four. IMO, SMU would make the cut if the top ACC programs were to branch off and form a new league although that might change in a merger situation with other Texas schools coming in.

have been lost due to the conference realignment. As a result, I do think it should be a more important factor when deciding which schools make the cut. For example, if TCU makes the cut, then naturally SMU should too because I always thought it was a fun/entertaining rivalry even when both teams were horrible. Likewise, if WVU makes the cut, then that opens the door for VT, Pitt, maybe Syracuse (secondary rivalry), and even UVA (who can forget about the bowl games).

viewership, and past success would be a pretty decent conference. Eliminate all preconceived notions, form a conference of the top 20 or 24 schools not in the P2, form regional pods for the non revs, and put the screws to ESPN, FOX, or any other media company to garner a competitive media deal. Being labeled an ACC, PAC, or B12 school is holding both conferences back, and allowing the media companies to pit one conference against the other. Screw the P2 on their AQ's, and schedule games the country would like to see, pitting the top schools from the individual pods playing each other, and allow enough flexibility for future in conference and OOC rivalries to thrive. If a deserving school can not come up with the money, in an objective fashion, or just wants to step aside for altruistic or academic reasons, and will not invest in the money making sports or facilities, ley them go. Call the conference anything you want.
