Did any of you catch the Greg Flugar thing on UNC and UVA?
I did not bother to watch the whole thing but did on why he thinks that UNC and UVA are joined at the hip. None of his reasons have anything to do with viewership numbers and all to do with relationships.
One interesting point, and this is my take on what he said. UNC and UVA are like women going to the bathroom together, UVA and UNC see each other as full sisters, in everything. Academics rule athletics at both places and the SEC was and is seen as beneath them so neither can get by their academic side to go to the SEC alone but if the 2 bright beacons of virtue go together, then it changes things.
That seems to be his view. Relationships matter and in some instances, hand holding matters.

VT/Miami - UVA for, UNC against. Publicly VA politicians pressured UVA but rumor is they didn't want us in the SEC
Calford/SMU - UVA led the way, UNC was against
Suing FSU/Clemson - UVA led the way and publicly condemend them, UNC was against
Non sports - UVA condemned current happenings, UNC did not

The idea of joined at the hip is less about the ACC or even sports and more the only (to them) public Ivys in the south. Its an only sibling thing in academics, research etc. And for sure UNC prostituted that lofty standard for ball players but still, it is not the athletes who make this bond. I would opine that the basis for this joining at the hip goes back to when they visited each other, their "servants" held the horses until they were ready to return. Those ties run way deeper than athletics.

UVA and UNC are on opposite ends for every major ACC decision. And they are nothing alike as schools. UVA continues to move to the left while UNC is shifting towards the center. And public ivy argument makes no sense. SEC has several elite academic school with Vandy, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida and UGA. If UNC wants an academic partner to go to the SEC then Duke is the obvious choice with alums, fans and faculty. In conclusion UVA and UNC aren't joined at the hip. They're not even in the same body.

UNC views UVA as their academic peer but not an athletic peer. UVA views UNC as their athletic peer but not an academic peer.
Just my opinion.

To your point, UVa was laughing harder than anyone during the UNC academic
scandal. Well, after NC State of course.

to any other.
In my mind UNC is the most valuable (non-Notre Dame) team that will come available. Can UNC really dictate who goes with them into a league? Are they willing to fall on that sword for another school? I certainly don’t think they would for Virginia.
A lot of it probably depends on how strongly the new league feels about Virginia one way or the other.
I do think both schools strongly prefer to be in the same league and view each other as peers. Just not sure UNC has enough influence if one of the leagues strongly prefers another team.

Watching Peek Around the Corner is a gigantic waste of time, unless you like very obvious speculation delivered with just a hint of pontification, where a guy gives you about 3 minutes worth of opinion over the course of a 1-2 hour long snoozefest.

they won't truly be joined if one gets a P2 offer and the other doesn't. They don't have the bargaining power to say "no, not without my sister" and would be foolish to not move for that reason.
And neither is hurt academically by going to the SEC. If either turned down that move because of academics, that would be incredibly foolish.

And the power they have to protect that snobbery.

A proper academic snob would get that who they play sports with is a nothingburger academically. Hell, they wouldn't want their school playing big time sports at all.

He mentioned that the lawyer group that UNC had/is using to help with conference realignment has a program established with UVA's school of law. I am assuming this would help skew UNC's realignment views to include UVA.
The real key is how much clout the SEC and Big Ten give UNC in them wanting to add to their conference. It also matters if UNC would be able to go somewhere with or without NC St. I just don't see the Big Ten saying, "Sure, we will take 3 okay football teams within the same region" unless they pair them with ND if ND sees the ACC will be a shell of its former self. One other option possibly would be the SEC saying why not, and take UNC, NC St, UVA, and VT to grow and appease any government issues (plus ensuring some rival games in these parts).
Once again, I think the Big Ten and SEC are at a crossroads, but this time they have a few years to figure things out - especially if the House settlement ever happens and they decide on a play-off format. I think the Big Ten and the SEC would like to separate from everyone else, but they realize they will alienate quite a number of college football fans. I think both are seeing how many schools they would have to add to accomplish this as well as spreading out across the nation. I think if the P2 could get the ACC to crumble by taking teams, I could see 48 being the final number (24 each).
For those ACC teams that could be plucked by the P2, the decision would be made if they thing sacrificing to get in the P2 would be worth it, or would they prefer to be at the top of another conference, but still not be that far behind. Does a school like Clemson join the P2, but look like Oklahoma did this past season like an average SEC team (like they said, some of these high powered schools are going to have to lose).
Would schools like FSU and Clemson work behind the scenes to get the schools they want in the ACC along with some of the Big 12 to form a new conference to make the P2 into P2.5 - I think they would have to go national and not regional - some for TV ratings, and some to sway ND to join. They could get 16-24 teams - perhaps something like:
VT, ND, FSU, Clemson, Utah, Ariz St, Kansas, UNC, GT, Tex Tech, Ok St, UVA, NC St, Duke, Lville, WVU, Pitt, Miami, Stanford, BYU, Colorado, Cal, Houston, & TCU
That is 24 ( you could cherry-pick from those or swap in and out. If ND would one day decide to join a conference if this is something they would join - they could see themselves as potential front-runners of this conference to have easy access to the play-offs, or it would give them enough of a national schedule in-conference to appease that aspect. Could each of these schools gain money in this conference than where they are at? Maybe the SEC and Big Ten get up to 20 each with adding a few of these schools, but leave enough decent/good programs to leave this new conference with 20 as well.
I just don't know if the P2 goes to 48 teams if VT is included. Maybe they are a tag-along - or maybe UVA is able to get into one, and the other P2 wants access to Virginia with getting VT. Does the SEC still to regionality with getting to 24 (the one path I see VT getting into the SEC), or do they branch out with getting Kansas and an Arizona school - or even Utah/Colorado. Does the Big Ten only add a Stanford, Utah, UNC and their tag-along(s), and ND? Does VT even have a voice talking to either P2 to see their options.
If the P2 go to 48 teams, I would hope they would develop 6-team pods to keep some regionality/rivalries in tact (as well as include VT). Going to 48 teams would still alienate some fans, but not nearly as much is they would stop at 40. It would still keep some interest if the P2 only go to 40 teams and a combo of 20 teams from the ACC, Big 12, Pac-2, and Notre Dame. I am not sure with the play-off, but I would just push to 16 teams w/ the 1st two rounds at home sites (not sure of model - 5-5-3-1 + 2 wilds cards - but only if a minimum of 10 conference games is forced).

Unequal distribution. And then the bottom half of either P2 may not be any better off than the top 1/4 of the ACC.

the major sports, aren't out of way (no BC or Syracuse), and show up to the games - so Stanford and Cal are out. AZ, AZ St, Utah, Colorado, BYU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston, TCU, K St, Kansas, Iowa St, Louisville, Cinci, Pitt, WVU, Ok St, Miami, UCF, NC St, NC, Virginia, VT Tech, FSU, Clemson, GT, Duke, Notre Dame for a 28 game league. 4 regional quads of 7 teams. I still see Notre Dame not joining due to independence so Syracuse takes ND's spot.

regionally. give some flexibility to the schools to schedule their football and basketball for optimal revenue, and best chance to get into the post season.

I did. He talked about the UNC-UVa duo in several of his latest episodes.
But everything he is saying is not news to anyone familiar with the ACC. But I think he makes a quantum leap from "UVa and UNC are coordinating" to "UVa and UNC are going to where they are going TOGETHER."
I do think UNC and UVa look at each other as peer institutions more so than they do with VT, Duke, or NC State. But one of two things could happen that Flugaur isn't mentioning.
1. The duo could go to separate conferences. I could see UVa going to the B1G if they actually had an invite, while UNC goes to the SEC.
2. The SEC could invite UNC WITHOUT UVa. They just might take UNC and NC State. Or UNC and Duke and be done with it.
BTW, I think if point 1 happens (not likely, but not impossible), this would be great for VT to the SEC would become a real possibility. And if the VA government wants to insist that both schools are treated right, they should be angling for this behind the scenes somehow.
My Hoo contact told me that UVa might not want to join the SEC for a number of reasons, but one is non-rev sports that the SEC doesn't support (I am assuming soccer and LAX, perhaps a few others).

for somebody's B1G agenda. Mostly useless for anything aside from a laugh and best interpreted as what is the B1G angle for distributing.
(In response to this post by Maroon Baboon)
He has some B1G contacts obviously. But he has been wrong about Notre Dame
and now with this latest UVa-UNC take, I'm certain he knows next to nothing about the ACC.
