Notre Dame will likely enter into long-term agreements with individual

schools. However, it doesn't mean those agreements will result in late regular season games on a consistent basis. Don't be surprised if the vast majority, maybe even all, the games against Clemson end up in September and early October. You might see 1 or 2 games in the series played in late October because another ACC school has a bye that week and Clemson either has to use that week as its bye or play an OOC game. However, I don't see Clemson agreeing to play Notre Dame in November because there is too much at stake to take that risk. At least until the Playoff Committee starts to reward teams for late season OOC losses against marquee names. Right now, Alabama is the only example where the Playoff Committee has rewarded a team with a late season loss. As far as the mid to lower tier schools go, the same logic the top tier teams use to limit the number of "difficult" late season OOC games will be used by those schools too. Basically all the schools want to put themselves in the best position to potentially earn a playoff bid that season or a bowl bid because they can't predict how good or bad they will be in that season. So the best path for those schools is to play their required P4 opponent in September or early October at the latest unless you final game of the season is against your OOC rival. If you lose the game, then you can minimize the damage because you still have plenty of games left on the schedule to achieve either goal. Whereas a late season OOC loss will likely knock you out of contention for a playoff bid because there aren't enough games left to recover from it. It may or may not impact the bowl bid situation going into the game. If the team is not already bowl eligible going into the game, then it will put even more pressure into winning the remaining games on the schedule. Most likely the games will be conference games unless you are one of the ACC schools who has a SEC rival.
