I don't really follow baseball anymore, so can someone tell me
what the haaay-uls gon on here? Are pitchers really doing this? Throwing lobs at batters? We have quadraplegic, cornhole throwing, car driving, murderers now, so I don't know what to believe. Stats(?): MLB pitches under 45 MPH: 2008 - 0 2009 - 0 2010 - 0 2011 - 0 2012 - 0 2013 - 0 2014 - 0 2015 - 0 2016 - 0 2017 - 6 2018 - 1 2019 - 0 2020 - 6 2021 - 64 2022 - 183 2023 - 199 2024 - 175 2025 - 424

The video you linked is a shortstop pitching just FYI. So like others have
said it's probably position players "pitching" in garbage time of blowouts. More a function of trying to preserve wear and tear on pitchers' arms than anything else.

Pitchers’ arms are so much longer now the release point
of a pitch is closer to the plate. Really takes the velocity out of a pitch.

I would bet 90% plus of those pitches were thrown by position players in
garbage time while saving their staffs arms.

I hear that.
The Braves are beginning the year with four of their five starters on the IL. Ridiculous. Dudes are always hurt these days. If I wanted to watch Triple-A ball, there are ways to do that.

Ron Darling swears the year round training is killing
starting pitching. That and these kids specialize way to early.

It's actually strategery on the Braves' part to get arms on
the IL early to get prepared to miss the playoffs sooner. :-)

If they're on the IL, then that IS AAA ball. International League.

Oh yeah? Well I'm a Mets fan. I'm in pain already and the season hasn't
started,

That's a heckuva rotation on the IL there...
Strider, Schwellenbach, Waldrep, Smith-Shawver. We're gonna have a lot of innings for Elder again. /shudder

Yeah. It happened in a game I went to 2-3 years ago. They stuck an
infielder in the game to finish it out. Batting practice pitches look more challenging.

I know sometimes, in those wonky 17 inning games....
...that some position players get a turn on the hill...

Yeah, it's pretty much a blowout game and a manager will ask a position
player to go throw some pitches so he doesn't have to use his bullpen.
