The smell usually gets them right out of the can. Here is one example.
For more, just Google eating Hakarl videos, but just watching one you will get the point.

And yes, the fermented shark was part of the tour. It was pretty nasty.
That aside, the food in Iceland generally ranged from good to amazing. But there were a few quirky things there.

Most recent was in Vienna last Xmas. Not something I would have on a regular basis but quite tasty and not lethal.
