Everything you typed after that is irrelevant based on my experience. Prepare for the silent steely eyed gaze from parents despite your best efforts to even the teams up. You just can’t win being a parent coach. Are the two best field players the best strikers or overall players? If best strikers, did you by default put the best defenders on the same team with the best GK? Just trying to spitball on what might have unintentionally happened. Also through my decades of playing, soccer dad-ing, and coaching (not my son!), outdoor soccer and futsal are two entirely different games.

fortunate to have a very good group of parents. Most of the ones participating in futsal have been with the program for 5 or more years, and we've had VERY LITTLE drama in terms of harassment on playing time, position, etc. So I don't expect any steely eyed glances because..... The 2 teams were chosen by agreement of 4 dad coaches. If anything, I'd say that most of the parents and coaches, including me, expected last night to be a close game, but perhaps with Team B having the advantage, since the parents also know the players. And if we look at common opponents in November, Team B beat Red 1 by something like 7-3. Team A beat Red 1 by 1 goal, 5-4. Both teams lost to Red #2 by about 2 goals each. As for Defenders with the goalie, we have 2 excellent defenders. One was the JV Captain, on team B, and the other was on A. And the way we play futsal is a 1-2-1 formation, and we switch a player out every 3 minutes and rotate the formation, so EVERY player plays every position except goalie. Also, Team B has the only player who made the school varsity team in the fall, the only player who was called up to varsity for a game and a few practices in the fall, and the JV Captain. They should be good. But last night, they weren't moving the ball and weren't covering well defensively. A scored 1, then a 2nd, then a 3rd and B started chasing offense to get back into it, leaving their poor goalie wide open against 2 on 1's, rebound opportunities, etc. By the time we were in the 2nd half, they were pushing so hard to try and get SOME goal on the board that it just continued worse. And Team B didn't have to play their worst player because he was sick and didn't come. They're all friends, so it's bragging rights for a week or so, but I don't expect any hard feelings.

Good to read about the parents and players. I truly hope that can be the case going forward. My son and I for that matter have great friends and memories from on and off the pitch that will last and endure for a lifetime. Enjoy making those memories with your son - time goes quick!

if you are a true coach Dad you can put him back late when it's tied and put the heat on him

know I've mentioned it before. Actually, when we scrimmage at practice and either have no goalies or play dad goalies or backup goalies, my son is normally the best ball handler and scorer. He just doesn't have the endurance to play Striker or Midfield on a full outdoor field for 20 minutes straight, or 35 per 40 minute half. And him in goal for futsal last night WASN'T at all a key, unless somehow he was in the heads of the other team trying for TOO perfect of a shot. In our last game (my wife tracks this) my son handled the ball as the keeper over 40 times. Last night, it's was like 15. They just didn't get shots on him and didn't even get the ball into the semi circle keeper 'box' much at all. Meanwhile, the boy playing keeper on the other end is too small to be a really good outdoor goalie, but in a futsal net he's been pretty damn good. Even last night, of the 11 goals, I'd say there were only 2 or 3 where he could have done better. The rest were his team just letting us get too open or his team not getting rebounds out of danger.
