and expecting too much from him too soon from VT-SI

The ACC is loaded with stellar QBs this year -- Miami, SMU, NC State, Cal
come to mind immediately. There are lots of other good QBs who will face off and sort themselves out during the course of what should be a fascinating year, and VT and UVa QBs are among those, I believe.

Not that interesting. Basically one way barstool conversation on a webpage.

Well, if Josh Puslasny says so, by all means we are doomed....tic
Most below point out the obvious to rebut what this person wrote. If Grunk takes care of the football, and the track record says he does do this, we will be fine. No problem with limited or lower pass attempts if our run game is going. Hard to fathom Reynolds not being a key player in the pass game to compliment what we know we have outside. This should make the run game good or better. Someone will pull some kind of stat out, but I don't put targeted throws to the TE in the high-risk category. We just can't have some gun slinging knucklehead throwing picks and either killing a drive or putting us in a tough spot on our end of the field. And, from the information we have so far - he seems to be quite efficient with his throws and stingy on picks. We shall soon see. 9/5/26 can't get here quick enough for me. MTH

I have faith in his ability to do his job very well...but I'm skeptical
that everyone else can do theirs....because a drop back QB requires everyone around him to be just as good. Run game has to work, pass protection has to work. CONSISTENTLY. When was the last time we had that around here? I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks, Poz. Sophomore at Radford, gotcha.

He built a story by creating a straw man to argue against
I have not seen any national or conference media carrying on about his immediate success. And I don’t know how many “fans” he speaks to but if our boards are a gage we r very wait and hope on the offensive. VT WAS PICKED 6th in preseason ACC POLL. Tells me this guy was trying to find an interesting topic to write about but failed. ** Edited by tallahasseehokie at 7/31/2026, 1:01:14 AM

He created multiple straw man arguments
I haven't seen anyone mention that he needs to carry the VT offense.

This is a BS article
No one is expecting him to be “elite”. He will be a massive upgrade over Drones. That will be enough for now.

Seems to underestimate the VT running game
Grunkemeyer does not have to throw 30 times a game and will not be asked to do so most games

Exactly.

Hopefully he does well. Many college football analysts are predicting
that by next year, Baker will be the starter. The O line must protect EG and the receivers have to catch most of the 50-50 balls. If those 2 things happen, VT's offense could be efficient.

Many football analysts? Name three.

Heard it on a Sports Illustrated ACC review podcast, 247 Podcast,
CBS podcast, and a few others. There were different reasons such as Baker's better mobility if the O like doesn't improve, EG wants more NIL than VT is willing to pay, possible injury to EG during the season, etc. I personally think EG is a significant upgrade over Drones, but do I see him as a 2 or 3 year starter, no I don't.

This is literally the first suggestion I have seen that Baker will be
the starter next year... ** Edited by hokiehill1117 at 7/31/2026, 9:08:41 AM

I’ve listened to a ton of podcasts…
On the upcoming season, my fandom has been re-established! That being said, I haven’t seen anyone saying Baker will take over for Grunk. Can you point me at an article that states that as I’m really curious! I do worry about Grunk’s size and his ability to stay healthy this upcoming season.

My dog is smarter than most sports journalists
TSL staff excluded, of course. Grunk is not the next coming of Peyton Manning at UT, but this team will run the ball and get rid of the ball fast. He was heads and shoulders ahead of the rest of the QB room.

Based on what???

Just from a raw talent prospective, however I think EG has the
advantage. I will say this, if the O line can't hold up, I expect BB to get some playing time early in the season.
