I haven't seen anyone mention that he needs to carry the VT offense.

I agree that winning a title, or really having any impact on success at his age, is an amazing accomplishment and one that may never be repeated. My point is that IMO the spectacle of him doing those things is lessened by the way he does it - jumping from team to team when he can't win, the team faces adversity, etc. It's the biggest knock on his illustrious career and this further solidifies those sentiments. Comparing MJ's age/path/role/burden at age 39 to the Wizards vs LeBron's to the Sixers (thru Cleveland, Miami, LA) is apples and oranges.

but I don't see how winning a title with a loaded sixers team helps his legacy. Yes, he has another ring on the resume but I feel like I could join that team and they would still make a deep run. In my eyes it hurts his legacy more than it cements it.

Like somehow CMY and VT's staff has no clue what they are doing and this is their first time making roster decisions. The player Camden is today is not even close to the same guy that wore a VT uniform. Camden was a good shooter but I vividly remember how bad his defense was. Glad he's developed and hope he has continued success.

I can see how MY wouldn't be seen as a guy to re-energize a program. I do think he's a heck of a coach and wish he would get 2-3 years of expanded resources and funding to make a solid run in March.

Is there no scenario where the new AD comes in, evaluates CMY with his own eyes, realizes there's a resource issue compared to the peer group we want to be in, and focuses on that? I get wanting to make your mark, but seems foolish to toss out a good coach just to make a change unless there's a legitimate concern.

My mom had family connections that would have gotten us World Series tickets if the Pirates had made it. - And yes, Bonds' throw to home plate was not good - lot of people to this day say the runner was out and would have been overturned on today's replay ability - Andy Van Slyke motioned to Bonds to play more shallow and the rumor is Bonds just flipped him off...

To be a top 25 program consistently, you have to have certain things. Yes, NIL ultimately dilutes some of that, but you still have to keep up appearances with top quality facilities. Basically, you can't have obviously omissions that make you look like a less serious contender as a program. I'm not saying waterfalls, koi ponds, barber shops, lazy rivers, etc. But functional items like LED lighting in the stadium, top tier weight room, upgraded practice spaces, an up to date locker room, technology and top tier visual presentation throughout. The NFL is different. You get to draft players, have a CBA and, for free agency, length of contract and financial guarantees come in to play. There are also only 32 competitors for a players services. For college football, there are 4x as many options and it's the wild west. This might be a horrible analogy but if a tech firm in the business world pays the highest salaries, they still can't have a sub par office or amenities. You still have to look and feel like a top firm.

I mean, it's important and all that but I think we're so far removed from this mattering that it's irrelevant.....for now. We need to rebuild the football department, the supporting staff, recruiting, evaluations, development, culture, etc. We need to raise the watermark on the games we're supposed to win beyond ODU, Wofford, etc... which we sometimes lose. We won't, in the first several years, care about our W/L against the top 10. What's important is creating some type of relevance, and a pathway to future top 15 success. I know that record stands out like a sore thumb but we're so far away from consistently beating top 40 teams that we need to focus on that first.
