Unless he really wants to be at VT and/or he knows he’s undervalued. Maybe I read it wrong, but he seemed all in before Stanley Smart and Kolby dropped a CB at that time. Kolby (now graduated) might lose his 100% CB accuracy on this one.

I cannot access (don’t know how) the 247 ratings history, but I recall Phillips was a 90 until March 2026 and then, inexplicably, his rating took a 3 point dive to the 247 87. I’ve since seen a ratings history of another recruit who had the very same thing happen and it causes me to wonder if I’m confusing the two. Neverthelss, Tai Phillips looks really good and I’ve read he wants to commit. Some have speculated a RB might find a home in the slot and Phillips would seem a candidate at 180 and fast. Maybe Norval McKenzie needed to get JJP committed before pulling in a 4th back. Kolby ’the lock’ Crawford gave VT a CB quite a while ago so its ripe for his May 29 OV.

Being a 4-star composite recruit from Texas is a big deal. This guy can play. Very good pickup for the Hokies.
