VT took a while but we got alignment.
Historically, from 1950's VT BOV was arm's length with athletics. It was a niche separate entity, that broke even, brought folks to the unviersity and the university had to do nothing.. (This inlcudes university logistics, academic support)..
Finally, athletics is 'wired' into the operation and allignment of the university. BOV established a separate stand alone committee overseeing Athletics, (so it will be discussed at every BOV meeting). BOV ensuring 'the university' led by President Sands and his 20,000 employees he oversees, are sync that althletics is part of the tenets for the univerisity.
Annoucing Franklin to each committee before the full board, was critical for full allignment by BOV. Makes things work much better. Also if football needs something, they are not going have the layers of study by middle management who are inhibitors. If they have objections and not constructive, well might get new staffing.
