Not a fan of the Manny Diaz idea.
We need a coach with less hair product, not more.

and he has the experience as a HC plus defensive Co. He wins at Duke, he can win a lot at VT.

of this caliber. we have zero shot at someone like Franklin, Napier, etc. when there are other programs both willing to pay top dollar for a coach AND have the facilities and resources in place (and have for awhile). VT will be a hard sell for a top HC candidate.
i personally think we need to sign Bob Chesney asap.

Whatever happened at "Da U" is really unfortunate for him. He isn't my top choice, but he would be a significant upgrade over the last two we had.

9 wins at Duke last year is a respectable accomplishment, but there are guys out there with much more than that. He didnt do much at Miami.

What he accomplished at Duke last year was pretty fantastic.
And I'm not sure how much about the Miami situation you know, but he came in and had to sort of re-establish an identity and culture down there. He had done that to a certain extent and was having a pretty good season util King got injured and he was forced to operate with KVD - not great if you remember.
The powers that be got restless with him, so he was pushed out. Would he have brought "Da U Bak"?? I have no idea. But again, while he wouldn't be my first choice he would be a significant upgrade to what we've had for the better part of 15 years.
I guess I don't understand the entitlement we have as a fanbase. We are arguably one of the bottom 3-4 teams, maybe programs right now, in P4. We are worse than UVA used to be. Becoming Duke within the next 2-3 years would be a massive victory for this program and team.

I don't buy that tired old VT mentality. Now is the time we need to break that culture with this hire.

VT football as it currently exists. We are one of the worst teams, and programs, in all of college football. Again, I don't get the entitlement mentality here.

on our list of interviews. Far above Shane IMO.
But since we are making it personal, if you knew anything about Manny's career or watched CFB at all or understood where VT is as a program you'd understand this. Clearly you do not.

Although I would rule out Diaz based on his press conferences. He is too stoic and doesn't win the press conferences like other coaches do.

Heâs not a builder. Heâs a sustainer. VT needs a builder.

same record as Cristobal the first 3 years with better success within the ACC.

Thatâs a builder. Diaz had 1 descent year and fell backwards the next year despite very high expectations. The trend is your friend when it comes to understanding where coaches are going. Diaz can handle a stable situation like Duke via Elko, but I have no faith in him building anything especially where expectations are high (aka places not named Duke).

are their records. His falloff in '21 included losses to a CFP participant, and NY6 participant, and 3 losses by a total of 7 points. Diaz didn't have a losing ACC record in any of his 3 seasons, and finished 3, 3, and 2. Cristobal has had two and finished no better than 3rd in any season.

I called the Diaz outcome the day he took the job. He was in over his head. Heâs not a bad coach but he simply doesnât have a track record of rebuilding anything and thatâs whatâs needed at VT.

hasn't proven he's better. You are taking Diaz's 3rd season and assume that's all he can do. That's not true. That's the same as taking Cristobal's 27-47 record from his first HC gig and saying that's who he is.

as a favorite to go from potential CFP to Alamo Bowl. I'm not sure they are upset with his departure.

chance as he'll have, and they aren't winning one. I doubt anyone in the ACC wins one soon, though.

And needing help to get in ACCCG. Christobol may surround himself with enough good coaches and talent and win a natty. I doubt it. He's not a goid coach.

The rest of their schedule -looks- easy, but they will likely lose at least one more regular season game.
