I like Coach Montgomery
Seems he has pulled this team together. Hat's off for a job well done in a most stressful enviroment.

He was hired late (2/2025) We have no idea what he could really do as HC/OC

Still no one answers - can he identify, recruit, develop talent?
Not to mention game management and decisions

Why? He is not going to be the next head coach

He just said he liked him
Didn't say he wanted him as next coach. Didn't sound like he implied it.

In a normal world - we would likely hire him
And be ok with it. But too much riding on the next hire. If we take Bob Chesney - me hopes he doesnt go there 🤣

I’d go as far as considering him for the OC on the new staff
If he and Bob Chesney are both agreeable to it, he would likely provide some cohesion for the team. He and the OL coach are the only ones I’d consider keeping around. Monty was more or less forced on Pry so I don’t consider him as a Pry guy who has been trying to make chicken salad out of…. The OL coach IMO has done a great job all things considered. There’s a functional, relatively consistent run game. Not great but not bad either. If there was a QB with any level of anticipatory release, I think the sacks would be half of where they are. Sefkis walked into a bad situation and it only got worse so while I feel bad for him, he’s not the guy. Good luck to him and the rest of the staff.

Absolutely not.
I absolutely love what Monty has done with the team. I have a ton of respect for him. However, his stubbornness to not lean in onto the team's strengths (running the football) has been a catastrophic decision (until he finally decided to on Friday night after he realized they weren't going to beat Cal throwing the football). We need a legitimate OC who can figure out how to utilize the personnel at hand.

took him 3.5 games to realize drones can not throw

Agree! Pass to the LOS when we needed 5 yards?
No amount of NIL fixes some of our play calling and AWFUL penalties

He’s been playing from behind a lot so he’s going to pass.
And the run game is going to suffer. It worked Friday because they got on track early in the second half with plenty of time to grind out the win. Similar to the NCST win. I think he’s more mailable than you give him credit for but he’s been situationally behind the 8 ball all season. He also doesn’t have much to work with under center but for the run game to have a chance to work he has to throw it.

Hard disagree...
He forced the passing game when up against Cal. It's a consistent theme with Monty. Again, I very much appreciate him. I am in his corner. But it's a hard no for me.

He's earned a legit look, plus the glassy eyes didn't hurt him any.

If we did retain him
We could allocate millions and millions and millions to poaching players. Saddens me what college football has become. I don't this this will happen though.

Coaching salaries don't directly impact player payments...
There is a $20.5 million dollar cap for direct player payments that can come from the university, and every penny of that is going to be funded regardless. If ANYTHING, that $20.5 million will impact how much we can pay a coach, but the player funding will be maxed out regardless. Any additional player payments must be funded by private NIL collectives, and there are new guidelines that will require more scrutiny to discourage direct pay-for-play payments, and require legitimate business endorsements. It remains to be seen how the collectives will wiggle around those new rules. Lawsuits incoming no doubt. Having said that, with the new funding committmen from the Board of Visitors that came out last month, we will be near the top of the ACC, and probably top 20% in college football in what will be available for coaching salary. The best thing that can happen for a more level playing field is that the collectives are tightly regulated. I have my doubts it will be enforceable. ** Edited by Techsupport at 10/28/2025, 8:29:34 AM

I hope he gets extra compensation and serious looks as a HC somewhere
Absolutely loved the emotion after the win Friday night. He's also good in the interviews. I can see why the players play hard for him. He's very genuine. Can't say enough for what he's done to keep these guys together through all this mess. There will be some G5 jobs opening up, and somebody needs to hire the man. As for the emotion, that's been sorely lacking in the last two head coaches. I hope the search committee keeps that in mind. You don't want a hot head or a guy who cries after every game, but you want somebody who cares and will wear that on their sleeve from time to time when appropriate. I admit I had checked out on this team, but Monty has drawn me back.

I too can rally around this team. The players are playing very hard and
show that they care. Didn't know how anyone could possibly resurrect this team, but Monty has done a fine job. Hoping for good things for him after season end.

Feel like Monty's emotion has rubbed off on the players
That's been lacking from the last two head coaches. As exasperating as this team is at times, you can't help but love that they are still bringing it every game. We were two dumb plays from possibly defeating Weak Florist. Maybe we can steal another game before this is over with.
