Help me understand. Why would either the SEC or Big10 take another school?
At this point both conferences have what they want. They are making a lot more than the ACC who is 3rd in VT revenue and playoff money. They have made sure, without picking them apart like they did to the PAC10, that the ACC and Big12 stay as nothing more than little brothers. The SEC makes $11 mil more per school than the ACC and the Big10 makes $20mil more per school than the ACC, in TV revenue. Both the SEC and Big 10 have a playoff deal that gets them around $8 more per school than the ACC. What properties are left, in any conference, that would change these numbers for either the SEC or Big 10? Notre Dame? Unless the SEC and Big 10 want to dismantle the NCAA why would they add more schools?

necessarily care about an individual team distribution....so if it makes sense for espn/fox to have X team(s) added, they'll push the lever

I think they are done until the next swarm of growth is required
FSU and Clemson have invites and will be the last camel's under the tent for a while, maybe a long while.

And they only cover a quarter of the total FBS football schools. For all the self promotion, the conferences know that they need more coverage across states. And they know that there are still several valuable properties available for football matchups.
Schools like FSU and Norte Dame provide good brands for matchups.
Schools like VT and Arizona provide new states with large populations for cable and streaming subscribers.
There is still value in P2 expansion. And the money will get pulled away from the ACC/B12 and shifted over to the P2. That current money gap will grow even more between the P2 and everyone else.

I could see the B1G wanting the latter two to add South Carolina and Florida viewership. Increased viewership only helps with the next negotiation for TV deals.
If it’s about viewership and geography, UVA and VT would be valuable as well. Hell, the B1G added Maryland and Rutgers. It’s clearly not about football performance.

Texas and OK kicked that into overdrive. They need FSU and Clemson to keep up, plus some of them think crushing the ACC is the way to get ND.
At this point, I would not be surprised to see a couple B10 teams leave to join the SEC. What if Michigan, OSU and Penn State joined the SEC?

The question is how the P2 schools view VT, UVa, NC State, UNC, Wake and Duke to capture the markets in North Carolina and Virginia.

Our football team has viewership. But we compete with UVa and UNC to say we deliver the markets in DC, Richmond, Charlotte and the Triangle.

The hiring of Sands, Whit and Pry all indicate Virginia Tech has been positioning itself for Big Ten membership. Stuff just went crazy with the demise of the Pac-12.
The question for the SEC and Big Ten is whether in the final vision, they want to divide Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, or if the SEC gets the southeast and the Big Ten gets the Northeast and Midwest.
The other scenario lost in the discussion is if the number of schools worthy that want in force a P4. I expect Congress, the Courts and TV networks will dive into that mess.

of slots available. I don't think they'd consider adding more than a couple of more schools, but they'll be able to make it work. SEC is much more limited, IMO.

should be pressing flesh on every idea; ban the SEC B10 channels from the basic tier; unconstitutional sure but it will take forever to get to supremes and they might not want to hear it; force ESPN to be outside of basic tier unless they renegotiate
UVA and VT should be hammering this stuff, making life better for the grannies who pay $8 a month to ESPN, $Y a month the B10, etc, etc.
