There are clearly going to be 3 levels of football going forward: P2, P5-3, G5. If and when the ACC runs into trouble the most likely outcome is a merger with B12. Unless they get invite to SEC or BIG 10, they will stay with the ACC. VT from the BOV to Governor do not want to branded with schools in the Big 12. Not real academic centers of learning

Remain in the ACC for sports year 2024 and 2025. This legal challenge is a stretch although they COULD prevail but it will be in North Carolina. Other scenario- where will F$U find the exit money which under current GOR is over $500 million! Relatedly, I haven’t seen the SEC or Big Whatever knocking their doors down since this happened last week or beforehand .. My gut is the ACC will remain intact as overall in all sports, it is still an attractive affiliation . There are almost no parallels with the Pac12… no inside info here just my two cents… I personally hope that FSU gets creamed in the Orange -and no matter what they put a big BULLSEYE target on their back for extra “ motivation” for all other “less deserving “ ACC teams when playing going forward!

I see and agree with your intuition on FSU. To me, the way for the ACC to remain intact is by adding Notre Dame. How, you may ask? Well, swallow hard, and tell ND you can keep your current NBC deal on the $ from your home games. Since they are in the ACC for all other sports it is sort of in their best interest that the ACC remain viable and intact. Sweeten that deal by also offering Navy who ND loves and plays every year. That would then be an ACC game for them. They also like to play Stanford (they voted for the admission) so that would also be an ACC game for them. The current deal already is that they play 5 ACC teams a year (I think) so they would need to add maybe 1-2 other ACC games (I think they played SMU this year also). Thoughts?

can’t be. I think VT thinks the ACC can survive without FSU. I’m sure they are having conversations but won’t do anything till absolutely necessary and the ACC is officially dead. Which is a shame because I think FSU is right. The ACC is losing ~$20 mil a year per school to the Big10. That’s huge. While clearly that money doesn’t automatically make you a contender, see most of the Big10, I’d like to see what VT could do with the extra $$. FSU is just the start and not the reason the ACC seems poised to be demoted to basketball only. It’s crazy really knowing only 3 conferences have NC’s in the last 20 years in football, and the ACC is in second place during that time.

That's pretty much a known. There is a coalition of schools, and I'm pretty sure they have been in contact with the B12.

both in actions, public comments, and lack of forward thinking on the athletic side, is we prefer to be in the ACC and hope it somehow holds together for the foreseeable future. We probably have played the "if I could would you" game with other conferences but with our Yes vote to add the other 3 schools, we probably don't have anything concrete in the form of a plan and are not pushing the issue. And truly until dominos fall, I don't know that we can have a solid plan at this point but have a general idea of the direction we want to go. Also, unless they are jettisoning the underperforming/lower status football programs to add better ones, I don't know that I believe the SEC and B10 will expand again before just breaking away. Everything from here on in would seem to dilute the other schools' shares in those conferences no?
