Blind Coaches Resume
Rank these coaches based on their resumes. All have been a head coach at mid majors and power 4 schools. Before I get you cant compare these things, this is for fun. Obviously its not a perfect comparison because of the schools they coached, how long they were at the mid major before going to power 4, the history and tradition of the schools they were at and most importantly the financial resources the schools provide. But have some fun and rank them anyway. Coach 1 11 seasons 10 overall winning seasons 1 overall losing or .500 season 8 conference winning seasons 3 conference losing or .500 seasons 1 march madness appearance 0-1 record in march madness 2 conference regular season titles 2 conference tourney titles Coach 2 24 years 22 overall winning seasons 2 overall losing or .500 seasons 16 conference winning seasons 8 conference losing or .500 seasons 9 march madness appearances 6-8 march madness record (in it this year) 3 conference regular season titles 3 conference tourney titles Coach 3 24 seasons 13 overall winning seasons 11 overall losing or .500 seasons 12 overall conference winning seasons 12 overall conference losing or .500 seasons 7 march madness appearances 1-7 in march madness 4 conference regular season titles 6 conference tourney titles Coach 4 12 years 10 overall winning seasons 2 overall losing or .500 seasons 9 conference winning seasons 3 conference losing or .500 seasons 4 march madness appearances (in it this year) 1-3 in march madness 2 conference regular season titles 2 conference tourney titles Coach 5 17 seasons 10 overall winning seasons 7 overall losing or .500 seasons 8 conference winning seasons 9 conference losing seasons 4 march madness appearances 6-4 in march madness 1 conference regular season titles 1 conference tourney title Each coach has some positives and some cons

Not particularly meaningful without knowing the "conference" for each.

Answer
1 - Forbes Wake Forest 2 - Brownell Clemson 3 - Young Va Tech 4 - Odom - Va 5 - Capel Pitt There was no agenda here. Just a list of ACC current coaches. As one poster said, Brownell is clearly 1 or 2 here based on the data I provided, but he has had long stretches with no success and fans wanted him fired at Clemson for years. But now he has made 3 march madnesses in a row. Is that because of increased NIL, has he improved, I dont know. But he is the rare guy in todays game that has been given a long rope Forbes has not made march madness at all in 6 years at Wake. Young - Draw your own conclusion Odom - appears to be hot, but has the smallest sample size. But he has made march madness with 4 schools. He may be the real deal if UVa keeps funding up Capel had Blake Griffin when he was good. Other than that, he has done nothing. Maybe he is also underfunded Thanks for playing

How does Coach #1 have 2 conference titles but only 1 NCAA appearance?

I'd probably go 4, 2, 3, 5, 1.
Fun exercise.

Coach #2 all day every day. Then Coach 4, then Coach 5. The others I can do
without.

What if I told you for 7 straight years #2 did make not make the tournament
at a p4 school and he is till currently coaching them? Hindsight is 20/20.

Context is everything so I'd be less inclined to be thrilled by that. And
obviously if one of the coaches had a run of 4 straight starting 3 years ago then that would be decent as well. But this has nothing to do with hindsight. This has to do with establishing some amount of winning with consistency. And without the drop-off indication in Coach 2 they would clearly be the preferred one. So it's a false choice because you didn't provide all the evidence one would need to make a good decision. Next time, please do so.

I wasn’t the one who posted the thread.
I just figured out who it was and I remembered him being on the hot seat for years and recently got on a run the last 4 years or so. I didn’t post the name because then it wouldn’t be blind. I assumed the point of the post was these are coaches we should have hired and no way # 2 or 4 would come here now.

Coach 5...A winning record in March Madness is what I'm looking for.

I generally like this idea...
Myself, I would separate .500 seasons, from losing Seasons. 2, 5, 4, 3, 1. ** Edited by HokieNL at 3/16/2026, 12:36:41 PM
