We get most of those same shots every game. The difference tonight is
we made them. Great win! Keeps slim hope of NCAA alive.

The 3 Bedford made with 2 minutes left was the signal they could hang on
and close this one out. That's the shot we've been taking either early in the clock, or the wrong person with the ball in their hands with 2 seconds left on the shot clock, and missing it. He nailed it and the fight was just about over.

I thought the ball movement was much better this game.

Exceptional. That one play out of the timeout where Hans alley-ooped to
Tobi running the baseline? Wow. What great execution and action. A lot less standing around last night, it seemed.

Thought they played with a lot more confidence.

Agree. They were poised late in 2nd half, and CMY substituted effectively.

that's the key word... confidence

Yeah it sounds trite, and we all try to overanalyze looking for answers
on why this team wins and loses on a given night, but confidence, or lack thereof , is a self fulfilling prophecy. We started out well offensively and it carried through.

And Clemson made same mistakes we normally make at the end of the game.
Missed open shots, missed FTs.

Yeah that really helped!
Clemson was atrocious down the stretch and fortunately they never tightened the screws. In a way it might have been helpful to see if we could have executed well against the extreme pressure defense but it never happened. Glad also that CMY decided against going into the 2 minute "prevent" defense and continued to play straight up. And didnt take time outs to let the other team regroup.

Nice that another team caught that bug.

Hopes were slim because people didn’t think we could win there
Hopes aren’t nearly as slim now. FSU-Miami-Wake must go 2-1 minimum but 3-0 puts us solidly IN Hokies HAVE TO win their home games…lose one home game then we have to win another road game ** Edited by hokiepro at 2/12/2026, 12:17:31 AM

10-8 gets us in without debate. 9-9 and we are at the mercy of the gods

Yes agree. Some would say all home game are must win…not true IF for ex….
If we lost to Wake but beat Miami That’d be a Q2 loss but a Q1 win. A Q1 win in that scenario helps more than a Q2 loss hurts so going 9-9 in that scenario we’d actually be in better shape than winning 3 home games (Q2, and 2 Q3) and losing all 3 Q1 road games 10-8 and we’re a lock because it would take 2 more Q1+2 wins and we’d have 9 total Q1+2 which is a big total for a bubble team

I don't think 2-1 does it.
I think 3-3 with those 3 wins puts us on the bubble as we would be 3-10 in Quad 1 and .500 in conference. I think 4 is the clincher or 3 and maybe some tourney wins. I feel like we now have a chance, odds went up significantly after last night. Every game is huge from here on out.

I've developed the opinion that conference tourney games don't matter.
Within reason. I think VT's fate is sealed before they go into the ACCT. I think that's true of most teams. Now, if you get to the ACCT and, say, make the finals with a couple Q1 wins, that's different. But in general, I don't think it moves the needle much.

Bubble is a Bubble
Yes, most of the time tourney performance won't matter but if you are truly on the Bubble and you win a Q1 game in the conference tournament and the last one in doesn't it could very possibly get you in. A lot of people refer to 2022 saying if we hadn't won the ACC we wouldn't have gotten in, well that was because we had only won 1 Q1 game going into the tourney. We were no where near the first team out to start the tourney. I certainly think we have a better chance of getting a Q1 win during the regular then in the Tourney where are first Q1 change could very possibly be DUKE.

If we beat any 1 of Miami/unc/uva we’d have 4 Quad 1 wins

I just think Brownell is a decent coach who almost always fields a good
team. Pkis they were 10-1 in conferwnce play. Ya never know, hope VT men can continue good play to end the regular season and go in to the tournament hot.

10-1 in conf BUT look at their road sched. Not a single team in top 1/2
