Yeah, not sure the flex here
Getting millions of dollars to play for a former NBA championship winning coach on a bluest of blue blood team proves that he's not a 1st round possibility? There are many potential draft picks staying in school this year.

You think Ovi plays 1 more year?
I'm guessing he's heading back to Russia and didn't want a traveling going away party for a season.

One of the TSL pods last week quoted a stat that we're (I think) top 10
in minutes lost to injuries this year in DI

Having to find someone to watch the dogs is a hassle
That was my biggest hassle I didn't really think about before. When kid(s) were home we could just have them take care of the dogs if we wanted to go on a weekend trip or something. Now its scrambling around figuring out what to do with them if we do something last minute.

The problem with the larger conferences
Is you can't necessarily say they are good just because they scored against "SEC" Teams. They did play UGA and OU but the other 6 games were against teams that went 9-39 in conference. They played teams that finished 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16 in conference (with 4 fired coaches...) ARK and MSU gave up nearly 38 points a game in conference.
Not saying they don't have a good offense, just wanted to give it more nuance.

Bruce Feldman wrote a good article about this the other day
Basically stating that other P4 teams spending more/"legal" money is leveling the playing field some and relatedly, the SEC teams' depths are not as good anymore when injuries, etc happen. The studs who used to wait their turn at Georgia, etc are now often transferring out before getting more playing time.
There was also a counter-argument that the SEC is still the best but gets hurt by beating each other up during the regular season and they are worn down by December.
And if you take out the 2 playoff games that were SEC vs SEC, they are 2-7 in the "postseason" against nother conferences.

Was just commenting on crazylane's post.
But I would argue that ND does contribute to FB revenues to the individual schools that host games against them, as well as helping the TV contract knowing there are ~3 Home ACC vs ND games a year in the contract.

Uh, won the Big 10 last year
Undefeated in the regular season. Lost in the Rose Bowl to the eventual national champs.
Lost 2 games in 2023, both to the national runner-up, Washington
Has lost a total of 2 regular season games in the last 2.5+ seasons.

Betting in college was NOTHING like it is now
My bookie was at JMU in my time at VT. It was a pain to get a hold of him and both confirm the lines and get the bet in and especially to get my winnings... There were a tiny fraction of bets being placed by college kids compared to now. Not to mention, those bets were basic. About the craziest bets I could make were multi-game parlays with teasers. (but at least I could bet on VT games in VA...)
Now you can make 3 clicks on your phone and bet all sorts of crazy things that you could never do before. Even my daughter had an account and placed a bunch of crazy SGP bets when they gave you all the free bonus bets, etc. Everyone is doing it now, and I think it is going to be a huge problem (is already tbh)

Besides Soto, who are the guys you are referring to?
Turner and Harper (when healthy) for sure but Harper was gone before the WS even and by the time Turner was going to be a FA they had no talent around him anyway. Trading Soto is the only reason there is any talent on the roster.
There were pitchers traded a decade ago as decent prospects that had some success, maybe 3 teams later, that you can't count IMO (Ray - traded to Tigers for Fister; Pivetta - to Phillies for Pabelbon; Luzardo - to A's for Doolittle) Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez got Adam Eaton and have had roller coaster careers since.
Should they have re-signed Rendon? Scherzer? Corbin?

They've drafted horribly for a decade+
And the guys in the FO involved with the scouting/ draft prep are still there. Put aside the 2 picks 15/16 years ago when they had the top pick and stumbled into generational talents, Strasburg and Harper. My kids could have made those picks. Rendon is the last draft pick with more than a career WAR over 4... and he was drafted in 2011.
Lerners not spending money anymore certainly did not help, but what player is a development success story for Rizzo, even when Lerners checkbook was open before 2020? If they didn't get the Padres prospects in the Soto trade they'd have the least talent in MLB. 2 of those guys (Gore and Abrams) were already in the MLB. Hassell has regressed since the trade. Wood is a freak.
Rizzo did have a good track record on trades, getting guys already developing in another system so I will give him props on pro scouting. And maybe the changes they made on the pitching development side a few years ago will bear fruit with some of the 6' 8" guys currently in the minors. We'll see.

I've experienced the same but it was the rough
I think it was a week before a tournament (not even PGA) and they were growing out the rough for it and it was impossible (for me) to hit a ball well if it was off the fairway by a foot.

US History classes only talk about the brief time the US was in it.
And the assassination of the Archduke.
If you really want to get into the weeds, there was a podcast series from Dan Carlin called Hardcore History that covered it over about 20 hours several years ago that I learned a ton from.

There's a draft lottery now.
Worst team doesn't neccesarily get the top pick, unlike the NFL.
And there is recruiting for international kids not eligible for the draft.
But I don't think it's fair to compare billionaire baseball team owners who choose not to spend their gobs of money they have to public universities trying to compete in football.

MLB has had 9 different champs in last 11 years
and few would argue the Orioles are actually doing all they can to try to win while they have a very affordable core of young players.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs might be in their 4th Super Bowl in 6 years after this Sunday with that socialist salary cap.

Playoffs go into Spring Semester
I'd imagine many players would want to find a spot and enroll in the spring elsewhere.

Not sure anyone is forcing you to pay
The invisible hand of the market will figure out how paying players will work down the line. Capitalism for me but not for thee won't cut it though.

Kristian Campbell
It is a big "if" though assuming he will get more aggressive, in the air, etc like KC has. Campbell blew up this year. Will be interesting to see if he keeps it up. Campbell was a 4th round pick.

Most of your examples were successful college coaches that tried
to take a shot as a head coach in the NFL and came back quickly to college after not being good in the pros. Harbaugh is maybe an exception although even he had success at Stanford before going to the NFL.

it's a little misleading
St. Louis is the 23rd largest MSA in the country. The actual city of St. Louis is one of only 2 independent cities outside the state of Virginia in the country (Baltimore). That's the same as saying Richmond has 230,000 people living there.
