I find that Boeheim interview very strange. If you don't say you are
retiring and you wait to hear from your employer that you are no longer employed, then you were terminated/fired/let go. You did not retire. You may still retire but it was forced retirement. He missed his chance to do it right and go out with everyone talking about him and his career all year long.

I always like the Al Groh poetry angle on his final presser

he should have left when his son was done...that made perfect sense....
instead he's chosen to make himself and Cuse look stupid and kinda take away some of the shine of his replacement, with whom I assume he has a good relationship with. Fine by me since I always thought he was a jerk

Pretty much what I was thinking. Should have left when son left

Yep, he threw his own ‘legacy’ in the trash due to his pride

If your secret contract is not extended, are you truly fired?
He got an extension of unspecified time when Hopkins was hired by UW. I suspect that the AD didn’t renew him and move to the future

Probably so greedy he wanted a severance package. Money!

He was true to his character. Quite the Asshat during the presser.

He also said he made his retirement announcement last week....
But he's waiting to hear and it's a university decision??? Yes, very starnge.

Sarcasm. Whatever he said is now his retro retirement speech.

I think he wanted the university to “demonstrate” they wanted him back.
And publicly. Extension, raise. Program funding. Short of that he was ready to retire.

I'm pretty sure he had already been told that was not an option

I would hate to forever look back on that last interview as how I left.
Pretty embarrassing talking in circles.

Not the Way to Leave
Very weird interview and poor way to announce you are leaving. It's obvious Syracuse wanted a change. 47 years at Syracuse. Wow, the man needs a life! Can't remember a stranger way for someone to leave a job.

They probably tried to make it a good situation, but it is Boeheim
He is so cantankerous that he probably went out of his way to piss them off. Coaching is not really a game for late 70's yo dude.....
