So there's some nuance...

With the Virginia/Tennessee v NCAA ruling, NIL can be brought in-house starting July 1. That's when revenue sharing can begin as well. So going forward if there is a mistake in NIL allocation it's 100% on the AD and his/her department. But leading up to last year's decision to funnel dollars away from bball that wasn't the case. The landscape was (and is currently) dominated by collectives. Schools are still choosing how to structure their NIL process after July 1, but that hasn't happened yet. I suspect most schools will have it in-house however with collectives supplementing.
