Whoever they start in the circle

Let’s plate a few runs early and hit them out of the game. Getting off to a good start is such an advantage in these types of games. Go Hokies!

They play in the losers bracket game tomorrow

And if they lose a second time, that’s it their season is over. But if they win tomorrow, can keep playing again until they lose. These are double elimination tourneys.

Big time performance today

And even bigger respect to the parents and fans who made the trip all the way down to Baton Rouge. You guys were LOUD on the broadcast this afternoon. Hokie Nation travels strong!

A dissenting opinion

Layton is certainly very talented, was lights out against FSU, and has a very bright future here at VT. However because today is essentially a must win game to (hopefully) enter the winners bracket, there’s definitely a rationale to go with the top of the rotation, which is either Mazz or Bree. In baseball there have been numerous examples of teams trying to β€œsave pitching” against a β€œlesser opponent” and then suddenly finding themselves in a dogfight. That’s kinda how Liberty went … we were kinda off from the beginning as if we took our foot off the gas. Bottom line - it feels like we’ll need everyone in the circle at some point this weekend, but gotta make sure you get into the winners bracket. And to me who a coach sends into the circle has the biggest impact on the game. Go Hokies!

What’s happening here is what’s been going on in youth baseball travel ball

For many many years Shocking and disgusting that D1 college sports has landed here as well

Wow I didn’t realize it was that close.

Reminds me of an almost HR ball that Ritter hit a few years ago … caught deep on the warning track but could have swung that game our way. It’s a game of inches for sure.

I could have sworn

I saw her in the pen throwing earlier in the game

Yes!

And a lot of first pitch change ups for strikes.

The radar doesn’t look too terrible

Over there, but you just never know. I’m hoping maybe it’s just a few sprinkles during the first two games, but nothing that delays play or shifts the brackets back. We shall see.

Credit to UVA there for giving her the green light

On a 3-1 count. A lot of batters would have been looking for the walk there.

Come on Pitt …

Let’s give your pitcher a bit more of a lead to work with here …

Sounds good … thx for the tip!

Yeah I imagine the UVA fans are going to fill up those seats pretty quick.

Getting there really early sounds like a great plan

Thanks for the helpful info. Very much looking forward to next Thursday Go Hokies!

Question on UVA’s stadium

That’s awesome that we got the 3 seed! Quick question - UVAs stadium seems to have very limited seating behind home plate, and the rest appears to be standing room. What are the odds that our general admission tickets actually get us a seat? Or does it all come down to how early you get there, and how quick you can be to grab a seat after the game in front of us ends? Just curious. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Great job of finishing strong Hokies!

What a great regular season! Selfishly hoping that we draw the night game in Charlottesville. ** Edited by vt49701 at 5/3/2026, 1:53:10 PM

Great job with the bats

Now let’s send Grizzard in to close it out!!

Wow her bat continues to on fire

Perfect time of the season for that. Boom let’s go Zoe!!!!

It may sound silly ….

But I really like that the SYR right fielder is smiling and having a blast out there, in what I think may be her final game. On that foul ball last inning she sprinted over to foul territory laid out and just came up short. And came up smiling and fist bumped the center fielder. Yesterday on a VT HR that just cleared the wall, she hit the wall at full speed and went down hard. And come up smiling. Even though they were down 10 runs or whatever it was as that point. Yeah it’s a D1 sport and everyone wants to win more than anything. But the athletes are certainly allowed to have fun with it and it’s awesome that the SYR RF is having a great day. (now let’s go out and plate 6 runs this inning to put a damper on their coaches day) ** Edited by vt49701 at 5/3/2026, 12:50:43 PM

Our home announcers are really good

However when we’re on the road, definitely a mixed bag :)

Have we worn this uniform combo before?

I certainly remember the all black. But don’t recall the black pin stripe pants. It’s a professional look. Have we worn these before earlier this season or no? Just curious.

Let's go Mazz!

Love it. Yes we absolutely need to attack today as a must-win game. Let's hope our bats give her a solid cushion early!

My favorite quote from yesterdays Syracuse broadcast

Was late in the game (4th or 5th inning), a sharply hit ball was hit to SS, and the announcer enthusiastically proclaimed β€œWhat a great play by Aldridge at short!!” I mean, Kylie is incredibly talented and she could very well have the range to make that play. But that late into the game, the announcers should have figured out who’s actually at SS and why coach set the original lineup card that way :) But hey, at least we are able to watch these games on TV which is awesome so no reason to complain. But it was pretty funny.

Very uplifting story for sure

Yet another example of why college softball is such an amazing sport to follow and invest in.

Yes :)

Our Hokies are up 11-2 in the 4th Bats are crushing it.

Our bottom of the 4th pitcher

What do you guys think? Mazz back to the circle or maybe a good spot to send in Fisher or Grizzard to close it out? ** Edited by vt49701 at 5/2/2026, 2:22:41 PM
