I emailed the generator repair guy and asked him to refund the tip.
LOL...
I would never do anything like that!
What I actually told him is I misunderstood the total due on the repair...and I overpayed...and would he refund the difference? Told him I was surprised he didn't bring that to my attention.
Just kickin' back waiting for the refund now.

Just went through that. Didn't tip.
They were here for literally 10-minutes.
Generator repair guy had to do an inspection...an evaluation...and then repair. Felt like the level of service was different.

Interesting perspective on tipping for home repair service
I have a large generator that needed repair (carburetor) and I hired a local small enginge repair guy to come to the house to get it running again. I tipped him 20% on top of the repair invoice, as I thought that was the standard.
My neighbor...the same guy who has a team at his place to take a large tree down...was questioning me about the generator repair. When he asked about cost, I gave him the repair number and my tip.
He thought I was nuts for tipping the guy. His rationale was that the guy owns his own business and he plugs his profit into the repair fee and that's enough. I understand that he builds profit into his rate, but are we no longer tipping for service visits? Especially those that go well?

Next door neighbor is having a very old, large tree taken down.
I'll be in front of the window...watching all morning. This process always fascinates me.
Especially the part when the crew found a racoon nest in the tree...and said racoon went sprinting down the trunk and down the street. Poor fella!

Jessie Jackson is on the list of famous people I've met.
I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2005 and TSO made the trip out with me. We decided ahead of time that we would go to Harry Caray's for post-race beers and lunch. Shortly after we were seated...an entourage entered...and I noticed that Jessie Jackson was in the middle of the group. They were seated in the back of the restaurant away from the front door and main bar. Some time later, Jessie got up and headed for the men's room. As he was passing our table on the way back to his, I stood up and stuck my hand out. He gave me a firm handshake and I introduced myself and TSO and told him we just wanted to say hello. He actually stood there and chatted with us for a couple of minutes which surprised us. Nice guy. Complex, full life to say the least...and a nice guy to us in that moment.
