Lindsey Vonn ruptered her ACL and will still compete in the Olympics anyway
She will wear a brace on her left knee and will compete. Pretty remarkable.

This is a highly respectful, entirely un-Lounge-like post and thread.

Quitting now won’t define her. Giving it the old cartilage try!

Remember [???] Scruggs from Olympic vault competition?

No, actually.

Had a leg injury. Made her last vault and stuck the landing.
The team coach carried her to the bench area. I think her name was Carrie, or some derivative of the pronunciation.

I think you are right...Carrie Suggs sounds right. SHE was tough as well!

I think this is a bad idea
Yes, she is very courageous. The chance she crashes again while going up to 80mph is very high. I don't like it. I believe her people should talk her out of it

Maybe (hopefully ) a good doctor told her she had to have reconstructive->
ACL surgery anyway, and anything ELSE she did would just have to be addressed in an already necessary surgery.. At least I HOPE that's it, but it seems awfully damn risky to me!

Considering she's done this before & it didn't work out then....SMH. She is
one of the most hard headed on the circuit though.

Is she not basically taking a spot away from someone else to compete?
Or at this point, is there not any wiggle room on substituting another American athlete to utilize her spot?

That's kind of what competition is all about, isn't it?

I'm not putting a stock car out there with a cut tire
why would we put a skier out there with 2/3rds of a knee?

She did EARN the right to compete. She DID qualify.
How do you take that away from someone...if they decide they still want to give it a shot?

Vonn’s earned the slot. As it’s been explained, without her
it’s all downhill. 😁

Even with the brace, doubt she'll be close to her times on 2 good legs

Like Ricky Bobby once said, if you're not first, you're last. The Olympics
is 4th place gets the same trophy as 50th. You go big or go home. US basically doesn't have anyone else with a chance at a medal other than Breezy Johnson on the speed team. I still give Linsey a better chance than the dudes. She won't ski Super G though.
Vtskier1 Vtskier1

That is the problem. She's one of only a few who has a chance of winning a
medal. Breezy Johnson is already qualified and will compete, but she just podium'd this past weekend in a weak field for the first time this year. So our ladies speed team is really Lindsey and Breezy with a small chance to medal. Where as our short turn brigade is very strong with Shiffrin, Moltzan, and McBride who all have it in them to medal. I expect Gold from Shiffrin in the SL, but she's been around the podium in GS. Moltzan has been on the podium this year too. McBride is close to a break-through...has the speed in sections, but does some bone-headed stuff that ejects her from the course in spectacular fashion (she's on the edge). The thing about the olympic courses is they are easier than normal WC races typically, so there is a chance for lower ranked racers to make a surprise. Hilary Lindh's medal comes to mind from years past.

Grant Noel did the same thing for VT in 2002.
Tore his ACL in the spring, didn't have surgery, and started the first two games against Arkansas State and LSU before giving way to Randall.

A valiant effort, but that definitely puts her behind the 8-ball.
