how could you possibly speak to the coaching that he was getting at VT.

you do not know what goes on behind closed doors or the conversations that are being had.

reminiscent of '22 hokies

I think they just have too many losses at this point and the wins don't make up for it. unless...

going 2-0 to close out the season

would make selection sunday interesting. this team is so frustratingly close.

Lawal came back earlier than expected.

People have set backs when dealing with injuries. These things happen, it isn't necessarily a CMY thing.

Future scheduling tidbit that CMY let slip in TTL

Hokies are going back to the Charleston Classic next November. I went last time they were there I. 2023 and it was a blast. New format though, only two games in a group structure. Charleston is a great town, highly recommend to anyone who is able to go.

St Mary's returned 10 players from a R32 team from last year,

So they've certainly got it together. VCU on the other hand are not world beaters, but I think we really really miss Lawal.

CSU's offense has really been clicking.

High rate of assists on a high rate of threes. They play very slow and don't take a high volume of shots, but when they shoot it, it tends to go in. Pretty sure they have like six guys shooting better than 40% from three. ** Edited by bjw810 at 11/25/2025, 3:36:17 PM

CMY has historically gotten his teams up for events like this

Thinking particularly of Charleston (beat a good Penn State team) and Orlando (beat a good Boise St and VERY good Iowa St). I could see them winning the whole thing, but I think two wins is probably more likely.

I will be staying at the comfort suites lol

Like a quarter of the price and you still get daily access to the Atlantis resort.

1:30 tip. A lot a lot a lot of fouls called.

I'm just mad cuz I have to go into work soon and I was hoping to at least catch the first half.

He had a much smaller role than I was expecting.

Could just take a little more time to come around. We know from the past that CMY will always hold someone out over lack of defense before he holds them out over a lack of offense. You have to be able to guard and I'm sure that is Pasha's issue at this point.

who is going to the exhibition game this weekend?

I'm honestly looking forward to that more than the Cal game. Just want to see Neo play in person.

Think they try to win a little more intentionally against Duquesne

when they're in front of the fans? Would probably smart just a little bit even though it still doesn't matter. Also-- might be a little easier to win against Duquesne as it is.

I believe the game vs Providence in Uncasville comes first.

That's the first big one, imo. That's a legitimate basketball team. Don't be surprised if we lose there.

I'm in the same boat.

From what I understand you can buy tickets at the box office when you're there. I don't believe that should be an issue, I don't think these games are selling out ever.

It would be hard to justify putting VT much higher than what they are at

just based on how bad they were last year. I know we got some good additions but it's all basically unknown. These predictive ratings aren't really worth anything until like January.

yeah seriously.

Mike Young has been a head coach for a longggg time and has seen it all. If he likes the team, I like it too. He's also not the kind of guy to shy away from voicing his concerns about a squad.

Neo is the type of player that you fit your offense to.

I'm sure that it will look similar in a lot of ways but I imagine we will see a lot more high ball screens than we have in the past with Neo as the handler. That's where he'll kill you.

oh lol my bad I completely misread.

top third is much more realistic obviously. still don't know that I would put it at 80% chance. I think that's probably closer to Louisville's odds for that kind of projection I don't think you're crazy though. It would be one think if this team had some kind of success last year and was returning the core with the additions that we have. Then I would think for sure, pretty much no doubt we make the tournament. But this team didn't have success last year. It was one of the worst teams in recent VT MBB memory. They still have a lot to prove.

This is incredibly optimistic and I'm probably pretty high on this team.

Finishing top 3 in the ACC would be an enormous coup. The ACC is much better this year than in recent years. I'm not saying top 3 is impossible, but the odds are far far worse than 90%. I think this team should pretty comfortably finish in the top half of the conference, I would imagine probably somewhere between 5th-8th. Will that be enough to make the tournament? Depends entirely on the strength of the conference. We have a tough schedule with a lot of our hardest games on the road, which is both good and bad. Lots of chances for statement wins, but they are much harder to achieve.

Especially with the type of season VT had last year..

The additions they made are not really substantial enough for bracketologists to say that they are a tournament team, even if it is true, which imo it is. I'm sure plenty of bracket guys have them on the fringe and it wouldn't take much to move them into the projected field.

tickets are available on the VT athletics website. already got mine

think they are about 10 bucks. it's the only reason I can justify making the trip down for the Cal football game.

tough draw on our road matchups.

Louisville, Clemson, NC State, Miami SMU and UNC all on the road. Will need to pick up at least a couple of those to make the tournament.

I mean he says it himself-- Luka Doncic

Neo is slightly bigger, but they have very similar games. The step back is identical

If you ask Mike, he would say yes..

but he says this every year. If I'm being realistic, I think the 2022 team was probably deeper, but there's so many unknown quantities on this team that it is hard to say at this point. Ask me again in mid January.

We will certainly be better than last year.

Entirely new roster save 4 players (I think) and we added one of the very best international prospects in the country. If he grew up in America and played in high school, he would be a 5 star McDonald's all american type of guy. So we will be better for sure, just how much better remains to be seen. I am optimistic and am expecting an NCAA tournament appearance. 6-10 seed range.

you go to school for free AND you get paid six figures to live in freaking

BLACKSBURG, VA where the cost of living is far below the national average. kids want to make a million dollars but they'll blow through it just as fast as they would 50 K. I hope that these NIL deals come with some financial literacy and responsibility courses.
