my son had his first day of work at a real job today

He's 22, graduating in three weeks from skoolin' in NYC. Started today in the marketing dept at a cool company. He spent the day creating ads for them. He's living the dream. ** Edited by MrBayAreaHokie at 5/4/2026, 6:41:45 PM

interesting....

We used to have a smallish house, like 2,100 and i got an estimate from a friendly builder(biz partners with an old friend)for a 1,500 addition that was something like $500/sq ft to build. My mind was blown. The builder said, "You really should just sell this and buy a bigger house", which is what we did LOL.

The Lounge 3 mo ago

almost free by cali standards

had a legit builder quote me $500/sq ft all in for a 1,500 addition. Instead I bought a bigger house as it was a whole lot easier.

what would it cost to have this built in the Burg?

Assumed you owned a plot of land, what's the estimate to build this in the Burg? Ballbark

I think the US college industry is going to be on its heals in 5 years

Let's be real, it's largely baby sitting for many people with basket weaving degrees. They are too immature to really work in an office, so they need to sit somewhere for four years and mature. Hopefully they are trainable at 21 or 22. The potential economic hit coming to all but the best schools might be enormous. Maybe not. I am pretty sure most schools will be like 2/3 female in 5 years, with student body sizes way down.

info on Exum's music career

One of his songs can up on Spotify shuffle the other day and it was a banger. Here's some info on him. Antone Exum Jr. (stage name EXUM), a former NFL safety who played for the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers, transitioned into music after injuries shortened his football career. His NFL playing days effectively ended around 2016–2019 due to injuries (including a notable 2016 season-ending one with the Vikings). He had always been into music as a hobby—writing lyrics since his teens—but ramped it up seriously during rehab time. He collaborated remotely with Norwegian producer Erik Samkopf (starting ~2018), blending hip-hop, surreal/dream pop, experimental rap, indie rock, electronic/R&B, and other eclectic styles. His music is often called "surreal pop" or genre-bending. Key Milestones in His Music CareerHe released his debut album Xardinal Coffee in June 2021 (9 tracks, including singles like "Dark Kept Secret" and "Arrest The Dancer"). It got coverage in outlets like The Guardian, Dazed, The New York Times/The Athletic, and Andscape. He toured in support of it, opening for artists like Alex G (2021) and Dehd (2022), and played shows like SXSW. Around 2020 (while finishing the album), he had a serious health scare during a routine heart procedure for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome—he flatlined on the table but was revived. He described it as a spiritual/confirming experience that reinforced his path into music. Since then, his music career has continued steadily but quietly/independently—he's remained active as an artist without massive mainstream breakthrough or major-label hype. He keeps releasing music on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp under the EXUM moniker:2022: Tickle Pink Hotel 2023: 27 Planets (plus singles like "Changes") 2024: Album hole (with a shift toward eerie outsider folk on tracks like "All My Days") 2025: Album In Russia. A is a 9 (released around June), plus singles like "Losing Focus," "Thinking about you," and "Rather be with you" He has an active presence on Instagram (@exumgod ) and X (@exumgod ), where he shares releases, and he still experiments with sounds, visuals, and themes (his work often feels introspective, trippy, or theatrical).Nothing dramatic like a retirement, scandal, or "disappearance" happened—he's just been consistently putting out music at his own pace as an indie artist, evolving stylistically while staying out of the NFL spotlight. His output has been regular (multiple projects since the debut), though not at the level of constant touring or viral fame. As of 2025–2026, new material (including the 2025 album) is still dropping, and he's described himself in artistic terms like "in my world I’m already a massively iconic artist.

there's no reason to get angry on the road

people are dumb, but they aren't being dumb because they personally hate you, they are just poor drivers....realize there are things you're bad at too, and all is good my friend.

certainly could be...

There are pockets a lot deeper than Mickey Mouse's these days....and they want content

one thing that has disappointed me with Claude

he doesnt seem to want to get into the screen scraping businessâ€Ļmaybe he feels the Captcha wars were already lost?

good question

based on your question, i asked Claude, “hey Claude, could we do stuff on instagram and facebook, or has Zuck shut that down?” he said Good question! Zuck hasn't "shut down" external tools or anything but the **organic reach landscape is very different:** **Instagram:** - Still good for visual content - Dive bars are actually very photogenic — neon signs, sticky floors, old jukeboxes - Reels could work well - But Sophie's voice is very text/wit based which is more Twitter native **Facebook:** - Organic reach is pretty dead for pages - Unless you're paying for ads - Older demographic than Sophie's persona **The real question is bandwidth** — are you already stretched managing the website and Twitter? Because doing Instagram well means: - Regular quality photos - Different content strategy - Different voice/format **My honest take:** - Double down on Twitter/X first since Sophie's voice is perfect for it - Instagram could work later if you have good dive bar photos - Facebook probably not worth it **One idea though:** If divebar.info users submit photos of bars, that's free Instagram content — neon signs, jukebox shots, that kind of thing could build a nice feed without much effort. Is photo content something you have access to at all?

it's crazy...the convo we had this morning was epic

Claude and i were chatting about which tweets Sophie should reply to. My question was, "should she reply to gentrification tweets in addition to $20/cocktail tweets". Claude goes into a long explanation of why she should stick to "$20 cocktail tweets". This is Claude talking to me about what Sophie should focus on. Tell me this isn't more coherent than anything you get from a marketing person LOL.,

my AI journey continues

I have posted about my dive bar site i built in about 6 hours using AI, divebar.info Last night I decided i needed a marketing team. I installed Claude on a laptop i no longer use, and the install wasn't problem free, but I got through it. Note, don't do this on a machine you care about cause it might go nuts on you. After installing claude we talked about how to market the site, and we decided to use twitter, after maybe an hour talking, we created my virtual social media manager, Sophie. I told Claude her back story. She immigrated from Berlin at 12, lived in Brooklyn, played bass in a punk band that never made it, etc. He wanted this info so that sophie could write copy in a context. Sophie now tweets for my site and had total control over the twitter account. She writes all the content. My next level of insanity is to pay $100/month to Elon for the full blown Twitter API, would would allow her to find tweets that are relevant, and reply to them, as a means of growing her account. I might do that in a week from today. Maybe next weekend's project. So, remember there are probably a lot of people giving twitter $100/month to reply to your posts. I just kicked this off last night and Sophie is doing ok so far.
