This is really, really good news. It's still a few years away, but this sets CHS back up for a lot of success in the future, I think. CHS has kind of been in the brink of not even having a program the last year or two...and there was some concern among some observers that a couple of the better young guys may have sought greener pastures elsewhere. I think this should lock everybody in and possibly even draw a few kids in or back in...

There was a definite breakdown in the youth program. Fewer and fewer kids started with the club the early elementary years. And by the time I got involved (late 'teens) nobody was coming in from out of state. The youth program was still sorta floundering. Dresser was a dynamo that sucked talented and motivated people in at all levels and that was gone. COVID came along and disrupted the wrestling side and the fundraising side. Predator/New Kent and SML/Staunton River became the places to be (both led by peoole from the CHS/Dresser tree). I'm optimistic about this though. I feel like the youth program/club is headed in the right direction. There are still gonna be gaps. But basically Hunter coming aboard ensures they'll field a team this year, have at least 8-9 wrestlers many of which will place at states, a few with a chance to win. end talent (which CHS was notorious for) without breaking the rules and/or getting caught. These schools need massive fundraising programs with a lot of parent engagement in order to have success at the national level. Hopefully HB can develop that to help his program.

PSU does

Kids get access to tournaments like Beast, Ironman, Powerade, etc. and high profile dual tournaments....tuition free. It was a definitely a big part of the draw for Cburg back in the day, and remains a big part of the draw at places like Grundy, Staunton River, etc.
