UVa hired Richmond's Aaron Roussell.
Really good hire. (Though if I'm VT, I'm not too terribly worried.)

Hate it for UR and VT. He’s a great person and coach. Relates to players
and his best players declined to portal for the money. Think he will see a different scene at UVA.

IMHO, a great decision by UVA. Very good coach and players liked him.

Why should VT not be too terribly worried?

Because he can't bring Maggie Doogan with him. She's Richmond's Liz Kitley.
His success is built on her dominance. Look her up if you don't know anything about her.

Hope Doogan gets drafted. A great player.

While he is a good coach and is liked, it isnt like
UVA hired a game-changer (big name) that could automatically elevate the program due to stature pr name recognition. You could say that describes duffy as well. She is working hard and doing things the right way, so she has reestablish VT as a viable contender and prevented VT from sinking to the bottom of the Acc. So, he could have a similar impact. How will he build a roster with the NIL? We will see. He is a nice hire and will bring positivity, but i would not say it is a big impact hire - which may be good. Substance over flash

well if the coaches are a wash, it becomes more about financial commitment
I choose to worry. I think VT WBB is in danger regardless of how nice of a job Coach Duffy appears to be doing.

The coaches are not necessarily a wash
Yes. financing matters. However, it is still about coaching at a certain level. Duffy has experience coaching in the Big East against UConn as well as in the ACC against Duke, UNC, Louisville, and NC State. She also has a strong assistant coaching staff, many of whom are proven. Russell has coached at Richmond for 7 years, at Bucknell, and at Chicago. Richmond has played against Texas and other P4 teams... I anticipate him doing well, but we will see. UVA and VT will typically split season games, though it was nice to win both this season. I think we will continue to be competitive against each other. I think the larger point is that UVA is not suddenly going to surpass VT in the ACC pecking order. UVA has been on pace with VT in the last two years after a drop the previous two years. Yes, money will matters. I think he will be better than Mox, even though she has brought UVA back to the middle of the pack in the ACC. It will be interesting to see.

Exactly. He's clearly a good coach. But he doesn't have nearly Duffy's
accomplishments, especially at the highest level of D1 bball. But maybe he is as good as Duffy. So what? Do we always have to worry and hope that our opponents will make bad hires? Or can we not just go out and compete and beat them?

Hoping you are right
Im just wary that UVa has learned well in the past couple of years to adapt to all the new realities. And VT lagged and now has practically every chip in on a football reset resulting in minimal oxygen left for anything else.

Seems like a good hire. Didn’t take long. Makes me think that Mox was gone
long before the tournament for that vetting to take place that quickly

I thunk good ADs always have a "just in case" list updated and ready.

Agree. But I wonder whether they searched the current crop. KB, DS, etc

Reportedly gave us fits in scrimmages

Yes. Very good coach. We may have even tried to hire him to replace KB. I
am pretty sure Rouse was on the list of possibles.
