Mazz seems to get stronger in the later innings.
Duke, obviously a quality opponent, really didn’t hit her that hard all weekend. It was just the dang walks on Friday and a very well timed hit (grand slam).
But we’ve seen this from her throughout the season so far. I believe she had a 143 pitch complete game against one of the SEC teams. That was good to see. Coming into the season, I wasn’t sure she would have the same type of rubber arm that Lemley and Keely had. She’s throwing hard, like Lemley, and it appears she added some strength in the off season.

Called. The first pitch of the game was PERFECT on outside half of plate just above the knees called a ball. It frustrated her right off the bat

much use to us anymore. If one bad ball/strike call on the first pitch of the game put anyone off that much they are useless.

I'm confident that she was just "off" on Friday and struggled to get back on. Anyone who plays sports knows that happens. But accusing of essentially falling apart based on one call is lame.

I think Mazz has the chance to be elite. She wasn’t necessarily wild Friday because she got frustrated on the first pitch…but as a pitcher it makes you wonder if you’ve hit your spot right out of the gate…where are you going to have to throw it? That’s not easy to settle in and adjust immediately vs a lineup whose top 5 hitters came in over .400
She will be fine and so will our team so it’s ok to chill now

She has such incredible movement on her curve and drop and it's going 70+.
It's very frustrating because at her best, she's among the best in the country. But she could also walk 8 in 4 innings. Was Pete's beard gray before she came to campus?...haha.

Her velocity is unlike anyone we’ve ever had. She needs to throw that change a little more often as she seems to be getting pretty good at it…really fooled Vega for a K

. . long enough to realize the you can throw the same pitch, same location and get a different call. I'm not sure how much help she gets from catcher Yaeger. It appears to me when Mazz does get ahead and wants to go out of the zone the catcher is setting up a couple of balls wide. You're rarely going to induce a swing out there.

You’ll see them ask catcher and catcher will relay what the call was (low/inside/out etc)
