UT is hosting regionals and it’s Graduation weekend (ducks…)
I’ll ask tomorrow where everyone is staying, but I’m guessing some groups staying 20-25 minutes away. I know in the past UT has blocked rooms at places similar distance like Salem or Radford. I bet some parents will be even further. The thought we didn’t host because of hotel rooms is ridiculous.

for regionals at the same time I’ll say there some issue with hotels. We were around 30 minutes away from the field which wasn’t bad. Gave us time to explore the area some.

it was out of town and not the nicest place. I lived in West Knoxville for 3 years and it wasn't in that area. I think it was going toward the airport maybe.

As much as we may want to believe that we’re not hosting on some NCAA technicality over hotel capacity, I guarantee that’s not the reason. There were a lot of good cases for 14, 15, and 16 and we got nudged out. Fair or not, that happens. I’m not making excuses, not second-guessing scheduling decisions, not blaming any one player, any one game, or any one reason. It doesn’t matter anymore and continuing to dwell on it is loser talk. I don’t even really care that we’re not in Blacksburg. Wherever we were going to end up we probably had to beat a decent SEC team to move on. Happy to have the girls do that in Alabama, just like they handled things at AZ State a few years ago!

There are things that I have personally seen or heard that makes me seriously wonder.
But no need to worry about it now - what's done is done.

Roanoke MSA (which is being a bit generous because VT is not in Roanoke, it's 35 miles away) is 313k. So, I would think the hotel capacity of the Knoxville area is much greater than the VT area.
I would have thought that VT would have found a way to make it work. So, I sort of dismissed the concerns. But, a LOT of people close to our program expressed concerns that hotel capacity could be a problem. They didn't seem to think that was ridiculous. So, I felt I had to give those views some credence.
And I assume you can't put a team across multiple hotels to take advantage of rooms here and there. Each team has to be in the same hotel. And that requires a block. If our admin has any indication that the hotel issue was a problem, I hope they will think about this. People book graduation rooms many many months in advance.
Maybe some of the people who thought this was going to be a problem will weigh in.
