What a great tweet/story from Grand Canyon SB about Jayme Bailey
Some exerpts:
"The final piece of the Grand Canyon softball staff is in place, as former All-ACC utility player Jayme Bailey takes her skill and expertise from Virginia Tech to GCU."
"The previous four years of Virginia Tech's tournament appearances included Bailey contributing heavily as a player. She started in at least 50 games from 2021 to 2023 and started all 25 games during the 2020 season that was cut short due to COVID. Bailey started a significant number of those games at first base but also played plenty of outfield through her career in Blacksburg."
"Jayme is a great addition to our program," GCU head coach Shanon Hays said. "She had a great career at Virginia Tech playing for and coaching under one of the best coaches in the country in Pete D'Amour. She will be working with our outfielders and assisting with our hitters. She will also be big in our recruiting efforts. I look forward to having her on our staff."
"Bailey will provide a different level of experience for hitters and fielders. She ranks sixth all-time in hits, third in RBIs, second in doubles, triples and total bases, and has the third-most runs in Virginia Tech history."
Best wishes, Jayme. HokieNation knows you will do great things!

Another branch to Pete D'Amour's coaching tree. I wonder how many....
will eventually become head coaches ten years from now?

Easton had been a baseball guy before Pete gave him a shot at coaching softball. From VT, he got a paid job at Austin Peay and then landed at Wichita State.
From his bio:
Prior to Austin Peay, Herring served as a volunteer assistant and catching/outfield coordinator and first base coach for nationally ranked Virginia Tech.
He also was tasked with developing scouting reports for the Top-10 ranked Hokies, who finished with a 46-10 record, including 14 wins over Top-25 ranked opponents, and hosted both an NCAA Regional and Super Regional.
During his one season at Virginia Tech, the Hokies had a conference-high 11 members on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams.

My daughter met her 3 years ago while in 6th grade. Jayme asked her what position she played. My daughter replied and said 1st base was her favorite, but everyone says that I’m too short to do it.
Jayme told her you don’t have to be tall to play first, it’s all about your glove.
My daughter still plays 1st and hopefully gets to learn something new month from Jayme.

We went last year. Went to the nc state VT wrestling match the day before. She knows most of the players on the team, so she of course was talking with them.

with Emma Ritter are at the top for me. My all time favorite Hokie softball moment is about Jayme and she wasn't even in the play. When Cam ***an walked it off against Clemson a year ago, it was awesome to watch Jayme run around the pile at home plate to get to Cam. I had just been reading about Jayme's brother and it gave me great joy to see her act like a kid in a candy store. I love what coach Pete says about her. "No other player is more like me than Jayme. She plays like me and coaches like me". I sure hope that young lady wear O&M again someday!

We engraved two for her, one was donated to this past softball auction and brought in about $300. We produced two bats for fans of Emma Ritter who are also Hokies from her hometown, Perryville Maryland.
One of the great things about producing these engraved bats is the expression on the player's face when they see their name engraved into the bat. There's a combination of awe and humility and honor that they have fans who think so much of them to want that piece of memorabilia from them.
When I told Emma about her two bats she was slightly stunned and asked, "Do I know these people?" The answer is NO she doesn't know them, then the humility and honor sets in and you could see how grateful she was that "this" was happening to her. The honor will be much more long-lasting than the NIL money. But still the NIL money is really nice.

love to meet Emma. She seems so incredibly grounded and really steadfast in her faith. I would love to listen to her talk about her time at VT and how she handled any adversity.
